As for the GP38's, thats a darn good question , though i dont know enough about them to know the answer to your question , wheres Triplex when you need him :mrgreen: .

Upon further review (referie voice).....it looks like I may have been thinkg of 38-2 rather than straight 38s. From what rosters I can find they are all GP38s or GP38AC. Ruling on the field stands, I lose a timeout :mrgreen:

The Shortline Railroad im modeling (Modesto & Empire Traction Company) just aquired 2 of these units this month, this makes there roster total 13 engines now (Nine 7-Toners, 2 SW1500's, and 2 RP GenSets). Ive never heard or seen these locos before, and they look pretty weird, is there another name for them maybe? Thought i would ask you since it looks like UP has quite a few of them

On M&ET's web site, it mentions the newly acquired road switchers, and says they have 2000 horsepower each, if thats true, did a GP10 have 2000 horsepower or did they have to add a lot of horses in the new re-built RP20BD's?

Deano, your thread is growing so quickly, it is hard to keep step with you . Somehow I like WSOR , so please, keep the pics coming. Though I am modeling Miami and CSX now, I still keep an eye on WSOR. I found a pic of a patched WSOR covered hopper ( <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=872008">http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPi ... ?id=872008</a><!-- m --> ), that I want to have as one of my next modeling projects. Judging by the patches, the hopper is a former CR car. Hunting on the bay a few days ago, I shot two Athearn RTR CR covered hoppers, that look very much like the WSOR car, for the price of one. So one will be turned into that beautiful patched WSOR car.

Those engines are the "Green" engines they are starting to use now, mostly for yards. Gensets, Green Goats, etc. i dont see many of them up this way, but i know they are popular out your way .

I have been to the IRM(Illinois Railway Museum) MANY times, in fact, i havent skipped a trip in the last seven years .

Wow! Lots to see there. I really like that restored BN. Also like that Burlington Route switcher and that big shiny Silver Pilot engine Do you think they will ever restore that DD40? That giant would definately be my favorite. On the steam episode of extreme trains, there was one right behind the 844 steam engine and they never mentioned it once. Hope they do an episode of that one in the lead.

If you would like to see a DD-40 and Big Boy on display together take a look up to your right as you pass over the Missouri River on I-80 between Council Bluffs, Iowa and Omaha, Nebraska. DD40 #6900 and either Big Boy 4017 or 4023, I can't remember off hand.
I also noted the DD-40 on the Extreme Trains show, but the guy doing the show was all about the 844 that day!!

Sure! After adding details it really looks nice, BUT with the motor I picked one of Athearn’s bad apples. It runs extremely noisy, starts like a rabbit and won’t run slowly. I think I have to re-motor the engine .

The new "green" units have no technical similarities with the old units that were rebuilt into them. Only a few major components are reused like the frame and trucks. Everything from the frame up is a brand new locomotive. There is no correlation between the power rating of the donor units and the new "green" units because the new units are basically new locomotives with a few recycled parts. The new "Locomotive" special edition of Trains explains this a lot better than I can from memory.
