Planning new FWWR layout
#1
Was having some issues with my current layout: http://www.the-gauge.net/forum/viewtopic...=46&t=4507. After 2 years it does not seem to be what I envisioned. Seemed that the layout morphed into something to complex and not the industrial layout that I want. The FWWR runs a few trains a day and I wanted to follow a job. My room size did not allow the amount of opperators that was needed to run the trains that i had planned. Since I may be the only opperator wanted to simplify the track plan. Was not happy with two decks and the helix took up to much room, the room is only 20' x 15' .

The FWWR has a job called the Everman Job that seems to be more of what im looking for: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.bing.com/maps/?v=2&cp=32.642565508303456~-97.30778628304334&lvl=15&dir=0&sty=h&form=LMLTCC">http://www.bing.com/maps/?v=2&cp=32.642 ... orm=LMLTCC</a><!-- m --> . From what ive been able to find out runs from Hodge Yard enters UP trackage to the Everman Industrial Park Area and back. At the industrial area there is a small 4 track interchange yard for the industrial park. I think UP drops off and PU cars and the FWWR Everman Job switchs the park.

Here is my room:

The Everman Industrial Lead is the former main track of of the Missouri Pacific before they got trackage rights on the MKT. They used to have a crew change at Mart, TX . If you take I-35 south towards Waco and get on the hwy 340 bypass around Waco to the east, you will cross some RR tracks just before you get to Hwy 6. That's the "Old Mart Main", what's left of the MP line around Waco.

Very cool location!I was checking it out on Bing.Looks like a Industrial Park,just what i am looking for also.I have spent countless hours on Google maps also,just trying to find urban,city Industry's that are linked together off of a spur or mainline track.The midwest was some-what dissapointing to me,but it seems like i have had alot of fortune in Florida and Texas,and some parts of California as far as modern industrial spurs.Because i will be modelling CSX,California is out of the question,but i have seen CSX in Texas...believe it or not.

The new track plans look good so far!That's where i'm stuck at.I don't want to proceed in building any benchwork untill i have a basic track plan. Wink

Still have way to go but im getting there. Trying to figure out on how to represent the following industries on back wall.

Smurffit-Stone:

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://maps.google.com/maps?q=everman,+tx&hl=en&ll=32.64653,-97.319126&spn=0.006694,0.01089&sll=37.160317,-95.712891&sspn=51.048671,89.208984&t=h&z=17">http://maps.google.com/maps?q=everman,+ ... 4&t=h&z=17</a><!-- m -->

or Miller Coors:

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://maps.google.com/maps?q=everman,+tx&hl=en&ll=32.642302,-97.318386&spn=0.006694,0.01089&sll=37.160317,-95.712891&sspn=51.048671,89.208984&t=h&z=17">http://maps.google.com/maps?q=everman,+ ... 4&t=h&z=17</a><!-- m -->

Mrs Bairds Bakeries:

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://maps.google.com/maps?q=everman,+tx&hl=en&ll=32.637848,-97.318375&spn=0.006695,0.01089&sll=37.160317,-95.712891&sspn=51.048671,89.208984&t=h&z=17">http://maps.google.com/maps?q=everman,+ ... 4&t=h&z=17</a><!-- m -->

Hey Guys!

I've been lurking on this site for several months, but I'm ready to jump in because of this thread!

I'm doing the same industrial park in N scale, I happen to live just 15 or so minutes from the area. It will be my first layout since I was 12, we'll see if this one ever gets done!!

I like that you have an entire room and can mimic the snake-like trackwork of some of the smaller industries in there. Mine is a straight 1'x11" shelf in a "closet" type of room in my garage. I can only do the straight area just east of the freeway. I plan on having, Miller Brewery, Mrs. Bairds, Smurfit, FW Lumber, Delta Steel and Ben E Keith on the little 6" shelf on the side.

The problem I have personally is that I want to keep it authentic to the real deal, but everything there is straight track with all the spurs curving off 90 degrees. Even in N with 12" depth, that's tough. I'm debating whether I just make the spurs parallel to the main track like most layouts, but it just doesn't have the same feel.

Miller is pretty complex and is very large. I want to have all the tracks, but I think I might go without the track that leads into the warehouse as I just don't see much rail traffic coming from that spur, the others probably get switched daily, if not more.

Mrs. Bairds is super simple, but takes up a lot of room for one spur.

Smurfit Stone always looks empty on bing maps, but whenever I've passed by on the freeway, it's always pretty full. Mostly rustbucket Railboxes. I think that would be a simple industry that moves a variety of goods, even if it's all boxcars.

The lumberyard just looks cool, so why not!?

My drawing was done in COREL draw, so is by no means to scale. I've layed out everything by eye and right now is just pinned down.

I'm really slow to work on stuff, I own a screen printing company and have 4 kids 9 and under, amongst other "distractions" Maybe if I get on here and post I'll get stuff done!

[Image: layout.jpg]

Also I will "build" most of the structures in Photoshop and print them on a large format printer I have access to. Here's Mrs. Bairds. [Image: mrs%20bairds2.jpg]

I had to step out while I was writing that last post and wanted to say that I did not want it to seem like I was hijacking this post to say "look at what I did!", but we can use it to bounce ideas off each other since we're modeling the same thing!

For some reason I can't see the Corel Draw images. No problem with any of the others. Any suggestions as to why this may be?

My guess is that either the drawings are too large, or the site software doesn't like the file extension - suggest that the OP try reducing the size and posting as JPegs

hi,
maybe you could turn the industries at the back 180 degrees. The spurs facing into the aisle, just like on one of David Barrow's previous layouts.
Short , one foot deep and 2 feet wide "peninsula's" would not interfere with to much with human traffic.

Wanted to be close to the what the industrial park is, but it just did not work. So I fliped the industries like was sugested and now we seem to be getting somewhere:

[Image: Everman3.jpg]

Also made it better for operations so you dont have to walk all over the place like before. Really like the feel of this. Maybe start the benchwork in Aug 2285_
So what does everybody think now?
