That's really cool! As someone who is especially interested in British trains as well as Canadian, this is neat to see.

I've been interested to see any British trains that have made their way over to Canada -- i.e. the "Dominion of Canada" A4 (Mallard-type) Pacific and "Waddon" (like Stepney) which are located at Exporail near Montreal. However, it's great to see a train museum in the UK purchasing and restoring Canadian railway items.

Thanks for posting this.

Hi Rob in Ont,

Since you mention the Dominion of Canada, I'd thought you may be interested in this article. Not sure if they can really pull it off :?: . Also, knowing the way the British Press works, this may be news to the guys at Exporail & the National Railroad Museum Icon_lol .

The guy who runs the Mangapps Railway is a big Canadian Railway fan. Please keep an extra sharp look-out for anything (photos & sound recordings) on Canadian National H6 class 4-6-0's! Have fun, David Notarius, London UK (ex New Hope Pa)

Thanks... Yes, I did hear about the plans to temporarily loan (or whatever euphenism they want to use) the DoC to the UK for that big anniversary. It would be great to see all of those A4s lined up, to see the DoC restored and possibly even in steam! I understand, from another forum, that the A4 in the US is too "far gone" to return to steam but that the DoC could.

The Brits are also upset that DoC is in such poor condition (needs painting, etc.) and would at least like to see it cosmetically restored. Steam Railway just published a special issue on LNER Pacifics, which is excellent and has a lot of info on the A4s. I bought this issue while in England in July, so it's probably just going on the newsstands here.

Interesting news about that heritage railway in the UK and the Canadian rail fan there. I'll let you know if I find out anything more.

Cheers,
Rob

Rob,

You've seen the British steamer that they're using at the Toronto production of The Railway Children? Down at the TRHA roundhouse - the production ends soon, but don't know when the engine is due back.

I believe the Railway Children has just ended ... not sure when it's due back. My son & I were at the Roundhouse this past w/e and enjoyed looking at it and its coach once again!
