Since I am sorting my collection of NG&SLG magazines, I did a quick survey for shucks and grins.

It turns out that water towers are the most common feature of probably close to 90% of all photos of real trains and layouts. It's not surprising, since that is where they most often stopped and provided an opportunity for photographers to capture the moment.
