Holiday Memory Lane -- South Amboy
#1
I was scanning some old photos and ran into a series I took in May 1981. I was in New York on business and had to stay over the weekend -- what a tragedy!! On the Saturday I rode NJDOT, the Sunday after church the Long Island. Here's the engine change in South Amboy:

oooh shiny pictures! This must have been very shortly before they repainted 4877. #4877 eventually became "big red", repainted as a tuscan red 5 stripe PRR paint scheme.

Do you know anything about the origins of those passenger cars?

Right offhand I would guess that the one whose end is shown is an ex-Santa Fe Budd. It looks like the one behind it may be an ex-PRR 22-roomette car rebuilt to coach in the 1960s.
