Any chance of you moving your first layout thread over here? I really enjoyed you track laying tutorials. Or else are you going to go step by step with your new layout here? It's because of you that I have to try the fast tracks jigs... Icon_lol

I suppose I could. It never occurred to me that anyone would really want them over here. I don't want to bore everyone with something that most have already seen... I also don't want to create a thread for the sake of re-creating an old one.

Perhaps I can migrate my double x-over build over here since it pretty much is the height of my adventures in hand laying. As for the layout thread, I'll leave that where it is. Once I start the re-do of my "new" layout plan the past efforts will be pretty much forgotten. I'm still undecided on the hand laying of straight sections and may just use ME flex track. I really enjoyed the hand laying its just at this point I'd rather run trains then spend my time spiking rail. It was a worthwhile experience though and I'm glad I did it, if only to say I've been able to do successfully.

Thanks for the props. Big Grin

Tetters - Have you looked at - http://www.cvmw.com/ - Central Valley ? Sort of a compromise between flex and hand-laid (at least it looks viable - haven't tried it myself)...results also look somewhat more detailed than hand-spiked. Maybe worth a look? Bob C.

Tetters,

The value from that thread came from the extensive photo documentation, and descriptions of the Fast Tracks jigs. It may be worth bringing a subset of that very long thread over here as a resource for future members.

Hey Bob,

I have heard of the CV stuff. It looks really nice. However I don't think I'll be going that route with my rebuild.

Matt,

Thanks for the feedback. I'll try and work on making a thread this weekend.

Thanks Dave! ...and you are not the only one!

With a heavy heart I will begin tear down of the old one in February. I'll start removing all the electrical underneath the deck first and then start pulling up the track work. I'll post some heart breaking pictures of the progress and once March Break hits, I'll be able to start doing some of the "heavy work" i.e. reworking some of the old bench work, new decking which will be 3/4 Birch ply, 1/2 Homasote roadbed plus an airbrush painting booth will be installed as part of the bench work.

Lots coming up in a few weeks. I learned so much building the first incarnation. I hope to apply all I learned this time around and make the second version truly better in many ways. I also could not have gotten as far as I could without the encouragement and advice of the members in this great on-line community. So if I haven't said it before. Thanks to all of you! Thumbsup Cheers
