Here is one more project I have pulled off the workbench with my unemployment. Believe it or not, I am running out of unfinished rolling stock projects! Icon_lol I finally got around to soldering a firebox out of brass. I never did figure out how to make a truss rod for the cylinder side that won't interfere with the driveline, so I am going to leave that detail off. With the driveline on that side, it won't be too noticeable. I also cut a pathway for the headlight wires and installed an LED headlight.

Nice work, there, Kevin!! And tackling a not-really-all-that-easy project as well!
Whew!! More power to ya! ... but only on the right side ... Icon_lol
Seriously, I look forward to watching this "wild woods wolverine" come together!

Shays are so cool! I remember when I was working at NCR in Silicon Valley, CA, I lived in Los Gatos, at the foot of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Every so often on the weekend I would go up the mountain to visit the Roaring Camp & Tall Trees R R. They had Shay and a Heisler. As I approached the grounds of the railroad, driving up through the woods, I could hear the Shay coming at what sounded like 80 mph! When I got to the grade crossing near the entrance, here it came ... at about 10 mph! They don't go very fast, but I bet they could pull one of those huge Redwoods right out of the ground and drag it away!! 357 357

Keep up the nice work, Kevin ... we're all waiting with bated breath for the next installment! Thumbsup Popcornbeer 2285_ 2285_

I am awaiting a few detail parts, and this shay should be back on the rails soon.
