Had's McCulloch Chainsaw Shop -- Monster Models Triple J

I picked up a Monster Model Works Triple J Repair laser cut building. This was the first Monster Models Works kit I have tried and I am very pleased with it so far. The wood is engraved to represent cinder block with laser cut doors and windows. The design of the kit is a small repair shop, which I really did not have any need for. I went ahead and put the main walls together before I really had plan for what I wanted to do with it.



After building the main part I decided that I was going to change it into a chainsaw repair shop. After doing a little research I found Had's McCulloch Chainsaw Shop, specializing in Sales, Repair, and Rental. I decided to add a front wall and a bathroom section.



I also plan on adding a full detailed interior with lighting.



I still have a lot to do, but seem to be moving along at a good pace.

I really like that center shot. That big window will afford a nice view of the inside.

This business might require a sound module of some sort, with chainsaws being briefly started up for an engine check, cursing when someone skins their knuckles during a repair, that sort of thing.
To tie the business into the local railroad you could have the track crew truck out front bringing in a chainsaw and a brush cutter or two for service/repair after a serious fight with the local track side vegetation.

Thanks guys, I probably should have put this in a different category, but oh well.

I have been working on grabbing images of the internet for adding signs and other details for the interior of the shop. I am also looking at a few other items to add some life to the inside of this neat little building. As far as sound goes, that is a neat idea. I have wanted to play with the the 'Dreamplayers' this may be a great opportunity. I also think having a company truck from the railroad at the shop may be a good idea also.

I have put the pictures taken from the internet to add some interior detailing to the shop. I still have a long way to go before it is done, but I have to start somewhere.

Think those are cinder blocks not "center" blocks. Worked at Angeles Block in Fontana CA where those were made for walls & fences. They are used a lot for "sound" walls along freeways here in CA. Ended up being a sawman there cutting them in half to be put on the end of a line blocks since the rows are staggered like on your model.

You mean to say Andy that they didnt cast 1/2 blocks?
I would have thought and I think I can remember seeing 1/2 blocks on site as an apprentice carpenter. If my memory is correct then the halves would usually come on a separate pallet along the lines of one pallet of halves per truck load. The trucks were tandem steer/ tandem drive cab over models with a palfinger crane at the tail end of the tray with fold down caged sides for road transport. Now days the trucks tend to be a truck and dog combination with either a three wheel self loading tailgate loader forklift or a four wheel drive forklift and rear ramps to load the forklift.

Mind you the market for Besser concrete blocks has taken a big hit with the increase in the use of precast panels.
There are now panels made of sheets of cement sheet [about 1/2 inch thick] either side of slightly modified pressed metal wall studs which once the wall is assembled and braced is filled with fresh concrete.

Andy: You are correct it should say cinder block. I was noticing that the way it was laser cut there were some 1/4 bricks so I did not think much about having more. Like i said there are a few things I probably would have done differently in regards to the kit, but it will fit my needs and most people will not notice the block issues.

I have the doors and windows in place. I still need to add some door details.






I am still trying to find some HO scale chain saws, but have a few places I still have not checked.

You know I had never thought about trying to find a HO scale chainsaw before.

You could possibly mock up something out of styrene to represent actual chainsaws and brown cardboard boxes for them to be shipped in.
A waiting customer or two perhaps. :wait:

OK the exterior of the building got a coat of paint, the plain cinder block was not much to look at.



I was able to get a few chainsaw details I also made some up out of bits and pieces in the scrap box.

Nicely done, Greg. In case you're wondering, I fixed the "center" reference in your first post, then, after reading the replies, "saw" that it had already been addressed. I can change it back if you'd like.

It did get me wondering, though, if the blocks were actually made using cinders or if that's simply a regional colloquialism. I did a quick search and came up with THIS. I thought that the second to last reply was interesting.
