HO Operating Open Hoppers
#1
Hi,

I'm looking for infos about HO operating hopper cars (for coal, gravel or sand). Most models that existed were relatively toyish, but it seems the old Ulrich 3-bay one was - for its time - quite decent. If anybody here has the said car, I'd be curious to see images of the mechanism. I'd like to experiment a little bit with some cars I had.

Well, to some point, I'd be curious if I could merge an Ulrich operating metal underframe with a newer and more detail hopper shell. Yes, I know it's crazy.

Best regards,

Matt

I have a tyco operating hopper, definitely toyish looking but it uses a specific track that came with it that has a sort of wedge that opens the hopper when it passes over it.

I've seen often the Tyco version. The Ulrich version was much more realistic from what I've seen. The doors did operate "realistically".
