Hefty german roundhouse project!
#1
Hi --

Just saw someone mention this 20-stall roundhouse from Germany on a Norwegian model railroading forum:

http://stummi.foren-city.de/htopic,34885,schuppen.html

The builder is a German guy named Roman with a CNC machine - it took him about 4 months to cut out all the parts from PVC and assemble, at a material cost of about 300 Euros (call it about $380 or so). The turntable by the roundhouse is from Roco.

Unless my knowledge of German is totally gone, I believe the first guy to comment says something like "that is utterly crazy!" Goldth

Hello of people,

and too better lastly I place you mean 20 constant ring locomotive sheds also still forwards, like the Wagenhalle am milled also the ring locomotive shed from PVC hard to plates. As turntable one is inserted of Roco.
All construction units were drawn in the turbo CAD and milled following. The locomotive shed is likewise equipped with händisch mobile gates. Further it orders over Untersuchungsgruben. The rails are eingefäst in the plates. More pictures gives it on my PAGE.

Quote:Hello of people,

Construction period (milling time) approx. 4 months (it is missing still the interior lighting).
We leave material costs beyond the 300. - Euronen, but it is worth each cent.

Quote:It would not be a problem, me already with the thoughts of the small series struck. (Initial at the beginning of 3-5 conditions alternatively with or without Unteruchungsgruben) momentary is drawn and milled everything on a track outlet of a Roco turntable (9°), however is possible for each track outlet, one would have only the roofs and the rear front the baseplates for skylight the etc.… to change. Would in principle be a reconstruction. Why not… are open for everything. All the more the more cheaply can one is needed producing and on the desires of others die.
My next project is 20 constant ring locomotive sheds of the KFJB after original plan of 1870. The track outlets and the building turntable is adapted to a Märklin. I will document these exactly also into this forum.

Sorry - should have translated the text - machine translation sometimes mangle German.

Here is an attempt to translate it into English:

at long good last, I also put my 20 stall roundhouse before you. Like the car barn, the roundhouse is also made out of milled PVC hard plastics. The turntable is from Roco.

All parts was drawn in Turbo Cad, and consequently milled. The roundhouse is also equipped with practical movable doors. Furthermore, it contains a grease pit. The tracks are fastened to the base. You can see more pictures on my web page <address not given>.

On 11-MAR-2009 at 1220 hrs, in response to Pepi suggesting that he starts manufacturing parts for sale and for Märklin turntables:

Quote: It wouldn't be a problem - I have also thrown around the thought of making small series (starting packs of 3-5 stalls, with an optional grease pit).

At the moment everything is drawn and milled base on a Roco turntable with 9 degrees between tracks, but any track angles are possible, but a lot would have to be changed - in principle a new construction.

Why not ? The more you use it, the lower the production cost, and one can look into the wishes of others.

My next project is a 20-stall roundhouse from the KFJB built to an original plan from 1870 . <From googling, it appears that KFJB is the Austrian Kaiser Franz Josef Bahn - Emperor Franz Josef Railroad>.

Track angles and the building will be fitted for a Märklin turntable. I will document this thoroughly in this forum.

Greetings,
Roman

I count 30 stalls. Heijan? Our reaction to assembling 10 kits just goes to show how impressive the scratch built 20 stall roundhouse is.

While I love huge roundhouses, I dislike being unable to see my power, and hence prefer for at least half the tracks to be outside. I ultimately plan to build a 6-stall stone roundhouse, based on the South Park's structure in Gunnison, CO. But that is the distant future.

I was trying to find a photo of the WT roundhouse complex in Washington D.C. but had no luck. That was two 2/3 circle roundhouses with side by side turntables, quite impressive.

That scratchbuilt roundhouse is amazing!
