Did athearn and bachmann share tooling for the F7s?
I have the first locomotive I got when i was a kid. It is a Bachmann uit with the same number as the athearn model in that picture. My Bachmann has the stripes and red nose, not as bright as the picture above but it is number 9162 also

Athearn's original f-7 used molds made by Globe. That is the model that is sold as the r-t-r model now, the Genesis versions use Highliner molds. A lot of other manufacturers also used the Globe tooling. I think Bachmann was one of them. The giveaway is that the Globe tooling has the wrong curvature on the roof. I doubt if the unit number is more than a coincidence. The manufacturer using the tooling makes up the masking to do the paint scheme, and selects numbers for model.
