Get the one motor running then with the other motor still not hooked to the drive train. The put jumper wires from on motor to the other and check witch way the motors turn.

Thanks Jerry,  I did not run this on dc on the track, just used a couple wires to the wheels. I don't see any way it would have run on DC on the track. The trucks are full of shorts so I am changing them with a pair I have from a PA1. when I get back to the project.  I will write how I did it including photos. It looks like a fairly easy job.  The motors and the decoder check out fine.
