This wwere mostly paint brush modifications. Visor and chrome had to be gone.
The pea counting company had odered none and also no amenities for the driver. And no West Coast style mirrors, instead the tiny "confusion" mirrors.

Hello,

the next truck. Condiments:
- Brekina Mack Model B tractor.
- P2K dump bed (was part of a load for flat cars)
- some pieces of styrene sheet
- some short sections of mahagony strip (ship modelling)

As purchased. Note European style rear fenders.

The fifth wheel and some parts had to go.

Preparing the bed.

Mounting the dump bed onto the frame.

Shortening the exaust pipe. Adding a head board.

Adding attachment planks.

For comparison Athearn vs Brekina. Which model is better? Hard to tell. Here in EU Brekina is regular available und not so pricey.
Athearn has released their truck modells only in tiny homeopatic doses and in in long time intervals. Also the Athearn prices are forbidden high. Examples: Kenworth W900 + 40' trailer 65,00€. The models are rather old and about 30 years on the market. And the newest excess: Yard tractor + 45' container + chassis 83,90€ Eek

At least:

Kenworth Bullnose cab over. (in person unwrapped)

Hello,

let's start another handyman's truck:

The base is a Jeep Gladiator pick up from Brekina. By exchanging wheels with an other model, this one got steel wheels. It's only the basic trim level as usual for commercial use. A rack for long items was made out of brass wire and soldered together.

Painting the inside of bed and rack flat black. Then put some gear into the bed. It does not matter exactly what ist is, the pricipal thing is to be looking messy.

Add some dirt, scratches and buckles.

At least put some stuff onto the rack.

And one more distinctive truck is ready to hit the layout.

Great job. The extra details make the truck stand out.

Great what you did to the rear end, typical for that kind of truck. Saw one this morning with a V-shaped crunch in the tailgate, so they don't take care of their trucks.

Singled.

Getting painted.

The result. The trailers are form A-line. Both got a forefront made out of strene sheet and evergreen U-Channels. Also mudflaps were added.

And this was a challenge to fit a figurine into a open classic CJ 7 Jeep. You can't made cuts at the figurine. They will be completely visible in the also completely open car.
So you have to made the alterations only with the car.

You are so right, I'd think though that a heat gun would work wonders with the figures. Great work my friend, inspiring... Applause Applause

Hello,

a long time there were no models of 1:87 models of everyday cars. In detail H0 scale models of classic American 4-door sedans. These 4-door sedans were biggest number of quantities, the mass of automobiles on the streets. But in H0 Scale scarce goods.
Now Rapido Trains had finally announced just this type of car in the shape of a third generation Chevrolet Caprice / Impala. Hurrah i shouted and ordered a dozen of these vehicles. They were not cheap, but excellent made. I was very satisfied with these models.
Some weeks later Brekina annonced also a classic american sedan. And as duplicity of sh.. happens, just the same prototype. Nope
But the price was only half of the Rapido one.

There are different trim levels.

Starting with the Chevrolet Implala with 9C1 police package. View the photos and make your own decisions which model is the best in your opinion.

Lutz, thanks for sharing these pictures.  Both cars look really nice.

A question:
In the first picture, which one is Rapido and which is Brekina?
I notice the car on the _left_ seems to have larger tires/wheels.
In my opinion, the proportions of the tires on the car to the _right_ seem more realistic.

Hello,

@ Hillyard
Deliberately i had not written which car is from which manufacturer.

Here the same with the civil cars:

The police car were Impalas with a standard trim level. Here are Caprices with a more luxury trim level.

As told, your own impressions and your own opinion is what counts.

I was in a hobby shop in a city a couple hours drive away yesterday and picked up this:

I've always had a thing for wagons and the rapido one is one of the best I've seen.
It might even make an appearance on my 1950's layout from time to time.

The Rapido cars are really nice. The wagons sold fast and if you didn't preorder you were out of luck. I preordered a couple and I wish I had done a few more.
