If is like the set i had.....the cars had a pin that kept them on the track ,two copper shoes that made contact with two silver thin rails that went around the track. You always had the problem with oxidation of everything........clean the bottom shoes with a file or an eraser [like on a pencil]. also the silver around the track ...auroa had sold 
a flat eraser for this problem.....if it is the set i think you have and you do this cleaning and cars still dont run......1..check track ,put a silver screwdriver across and see if you get a spark.......2..open car up check magnets [there are two] may need a cleaning, or armature could be rusted or dirty.......................hope it may have helped?
