HO for me. As far as the car goes any thing would work. I would do a car because a Loco would need to be DCC for some and DC for others, which could get $$ to do.

lester as for the loco i was thinking about that same thing last night and wife asked me this. what about the units i at yard sale that where in a bow with all the cars i got.
that i took the motors out of to repower. she said just use one of the with out the motor in it . i looked at he and said you mean a dummy."non power" she said then you don't have to worry about it not working on any ones layout.

i told here she had a good idea and i would get her somthing good for christmas. here goes 200+ on her this year. she been wanting the ipod touch.
