Really amazing!! I'm sure it takes a lot of careful planning and effort to be able to "junk" these vehicles and have them look so realistic. I don't recall seing a "Hudson" pick up, but I [i]do[i] recall Studebaker trucks. I've also seen a Cord and a "Gold Lion" series De Soto.

I'm still hoping the Sgt comes back & tells me what a "Gold Lion" Desoto is.

Well, the SGT . never came back to tell me what one is--- however I did discover what a "Kaiser Dragon "was. Anybody know ------ or care to KNOW?

Dave, just did a quick Google - best I can find is the "Golden Lion" was the ultimate engine option in DeSoto, Chrysler, and possibly Dodge and Imperial, late '50s to early '60s - a 383 or 413 cu.in. v-8 (painted gold) with two 4-barrel carbs and loooonnng cast ram-intake runner manifolds (24+ inches to the heads). The DeSoto "Adventurer" series might have been ordered with this plant. With your car knowledge, I'm sure you would recognize the old Chrysler "Long-Ram" motors, but couldn't find any labeling outside the car - you'll have to "open the hood" to tell ! Bob C.

These look awesome! I have a Model T(?) that I was going to build like this for Steve's layout a long time ago but never got around to it, so now I'll have to incorporate it on my layout somehow. I've been thinking of junking it up and putting it on the hill in the back corner of my layout by where the rock cut is

After reading through this thread less than a week ago, I was at IRM for their 19th annual Transportation Extravanganza yesterday, and what did I see? A Hundson pickup! I immediately thought of this thread when I saw it.

Thanks Bob-- As much as I played around with Chrysler Hemis , I had never heard of a "Gold Lion" , glad I know now.

Viperman--- Thanks for the Hudson truck pics, I wish tjhere was something in 1/64 close enough to the 46 model to make one out of it , but I don't think anything is remotely close to it

My next victim will be this 51 Merc convt. I decided to do sonething different this time , I am showing a picture of the stock Johnny Lightning model before I start.

As can be seen this is a customizesd car, so first I have to grind off the buick side mouldings, change the grill & a few other things to get it more stock looking, before I "scrap" it.

I do hope there are no Johnny L. car collectors on here , I just realized that this Merc. is a "White Lightning" , kind of special because there is only one in a case (48) of cars. A collector would have a fit over junking it!!

The swamp cooler (on the Hudson) is a nice touch

88fan. Thanks. Thats good to know, all I knew was that they had white interiors. I still would have junked it but I'm glad it's not a "special" car.

OK . Here is a couple of progress pics on the Merc. Man do they look ratty in process!! Hard to realize that , in the end ,it MIGHT be a nice model. This is showing the firewall in & the grill opening & grill in process.
