Abandoned House Project

All that is most excellent! You pegged the shabby run-down look, and the little diorama with the details is perfect. The abandoned house is a great model. You did good, and as I said before, AG should be proud to have these on his layout.

Very nicely done, Richard. Thumbsup Thumbsup That light-coloured stuff on the roof of the abandoned house looks exactly like the stuff growing on my garage roof, Eek an area that's always shaded. The "old wood" look is very effective, too.

Oh wow, that is awesome! Tom Silva and Norm Abram would have their work cut out for them on that one.

Thanks for all the kind words. This was definitely a learning curve. Biggest lesson learned on this one is not to use Floquil directly on foam - it melted and shrunk a little, but it did create some cool depressions and abnormalities on the base.
Doc - I followed your advice on the roof - a couple of light swipes with browns, grays, rust and white....thanks for the help. Next project for AG's layout will be an old wooden Post Office for one of his towns.....
Cheers,
Richard

If you need an interesting prototype for a small Post Office ...

... allow me to present the smallest Post Office in the United States of America ...

The US Post Office at Ochopee, Florida.

Just thought you might be interested in a for-real RURAL Post Office ... It sits at the back edge of a clearing along side U.S.Rt. 41 just prior to Rt. 41 crossing the Everglades on the way to Miami. There are not other signs of human life visible from the location of the the Post Office!

For instance, the photo below was taken not very far from the Ochopee Post Office ... the area is decidedly rural!

Ochopee is so "rural" that the US Census Bureau has no available statistics on the area, nor does Collier County, the county within which it is located,
At least not that I have been able to find.
People in that area of the state pretty much keep to themselves, and don't appreciate being sought out by anyone univited, especially anyone from the government ... ... any government!
