Caught this car yesterday(6-15-2011) around 11;00am headed East through Cresson,Pennsylvania. i have no idea why the USDA would have this car or what they use it for.

Hey todd you mean this car? LOL I was up there yesterday also. You might have seen me, I was up next to the tracks getting photo's of the RP-E4C that was sitting there. I thought that was you there yesterday but was not sure.

Seriously...what is the function of those scale cars..?? I've seen them mentioned elsewhere, but have no idea what they do....

Do you see those in your neck of the woods Steamtrain? i would think down there is where they would be. just one of the cars that you wonder why they would need it?

If i am not mistaken the scale cars are used to calibrate the scales in the yards.

Just a guess on my part but I would bet they use these to test the scales where grain is loaded in order to make sure the farmer is getting a fair shake.
