Wow, great pics! I don't know if I'd have the energy to stick it out for so long, I can usually only manage 2-3 hours. Yes, it's great to have so many extra hours of daylight. Rob

We were dreading the day as we figured we would be bored and unable to "stick it out", but we had a great time, and there was so much action that the time went by very fast.
I was disapointed that there weren't more trains runing the Bayard branch, (the one that crossed the bridge) that rejoins the Cleveland line at Alliance, Ohio, and also splits at Wellsville, Ohio and follows the Ohio River to Mingo Junction and beyond. The reason we chose this location was to catch all the trains that go through Conway. Check out Rochester, Pa on Bing maps and you get a better idea of the track arrangement. Charlie

I had this idiotic idea. It is still 9 months until the next longest day and it will be on a Wednesday, June 20. I was thinking that all of the railfans on the gauge could pick their favorite action packed out of the way place and do the same thing, then post all their pictures for the day. Those that have to work or are otherwise unavailable on the first day could substitute the following Saturday, June 23.
If you do take me up on this insane adventure be sure to take something to protect you from the sun and lots of snacks and food. I will once again go to Rochester because you can get great shots without bothering anyone. Charlie

I guess I could add some "Almost Longest Day" photos from June 20. Although it was cloudy and rainy in the afternoon so these are all from the morning in Deshler, Ohio:
