jwb, the wonderfull blue structure is on order Wink It is clearly visible on Google. There is a UP pickup my LHS will order from the US "River Point Station 2008 Ford F-250 Super Duty 4X4 Pickup Truck w/Super Cab & Long Box -- Union Pacific (white)". That will take weeks if not month...
The utility pole and the antenna are nice details of the prototype but I have to omit them. They would not survive a day at the very layout front...

some time later
Got a neutral white limousine (management road show) and a red and orange truck got a white cover and a UP sign at the doors. Not perfect but the River Point truck is sold out at Walthers. I assume my LHS will not deliver.

Reinhard,

Have been catching up on your posts, looks like in a month you have completely changed the layout Eek ; I was partial to the grain elevators, but the new look is very pleasing.
Have you looked at http://www.truckstopmodels.com for the River Point Station Fords. As stated before always amazed at the speed in which you make a change and get it accomplished. Thumbsup Thumbsup

The URL has a parameter (?t=1343024169). It is possible that that confuses SSWs browser, and that it doesn't recognize it as a JPG.

Same link without the parameter at the end:

Can SSW see that one?

Hi Guys,

But I can see the photos uploaded by jwb all the way to the end of the thread???...how can this be??? Do I need to change a setting, never had this issue before, whats changed? (Sorry, know this is "off topic")

There is one thing I changed some weeks ago.
All the photos are hosted by photo bucket. I used their web interface for uploading. That means I have to have the jpg file on my hard disk and point to it on the photo bucket upload page.
Some time ago photobucket introduced an add on for iPhoto. I attach the camera to the iMac, iPhoto grabs the images from the camera and the add on pushes them up to photobucket.
The attached photo has been posted the old way. Do you see it?

and this one the new way via iPhoto add on
[Image: 9abbf0db.jpg?t=1343892930]

Another change is the way how the resize (scale down to 1024*768 or 800*600) is done
the old way is via Photoshop on the jpg file on my hard disk. the new way is on the fly as a selection in the iPhoto add-on (much easier for me).

This is the the same photo uploaded via iPhoto addon AND resized to 640 * 480 on the fly. Do you see it too? That is how all my layout photos are posted.

ps. The photos shot from the hotel room window in Schwangau in the Allgaeu close to caste Neu Schwanstein.

Your UP truck kitbash isn't too far from this one: Here are some more: Can anyone identify the manufacturer on these (KW, Peterbilt, whatever?) I keep thinking it might be possible to kitbash some using Trucks n Stuff/Herpa cabs and Boley/Walthers Scenemaster/Herpa chassis and bodies.

A expected my LHS can not get River Point Station 2008 Ford F-250 Super Duty 4X4 Pickup Truck w/Super Cab & Long Box -- Union Pacific (white). I is sold out. Athearn will have one in September. I placed a reservation for it.
I saw a couple of MOW kit bashing over the last years. Looks like that is a famous model area too.

I found a good web page on kitbashing Boley trucks into railroad MOW vehicles at http://www.1-87vehicles.org/how_to/rotodump_pg1.php

Did some more details, set the building "in" the ground, added two highly endangered poles (they are to prominent at J yard to be ignored) and set jwb's green warning sign at the road entry (the green shadow Wink ). Still waiting for the blue mansion....

The truck got two more layers of white paint. It is amazing how strong the red/orange plastic shines through the paint. It is still not perfect white but a little bit pink girly truck :o

and that is about what I see during operation sessions.

It is time for a checkpoint and to relax after all buildings have been replaced with models scratch built after prototypes in and around Vernon. I would like to say thank you for the hints and tips I got so much. You have been a great help!

The toggle switches at the fascia for the turnouts demonstrate my change of attitude. All white flagged are out of order. Only seven switches are in operation anymore. The amount of tracks and switches has been reduced to have a more prototypical layout and to get the space need for the switchers and cars run in SoCal today. Some crisp and clean ISL in this forum have been a great help to setup my mind together with the books of Lance and Pelle.

Only some weeks left until we will go for a month to the red sea and shortly after that my next six month work period will start with much less time for model railroading. However, I will continue to do little improvements all time.
I did a series of photos documenting this "new" layout Smile

Two photos of the south side (north side has no scenery and is a four track staging yard only).

OUTSTANDING!

One little request though - instead of going to the Red Sea for a month, how about visiting the lovely Kentucky River area and working on some structures for my layout? Icon_lol I'm so tied up with another project right now, I'm not getting anything done!

Well, Reinhard, you've been giving me some good ideas on how to run a thread about a layout. Especially if you're not going to be posting as much (and are there any railroads at the Red Sea?), maybe I need to take up the slack by running a similar and more focused thread about my own layout.

I hope you'll give some thought, though, to how you might post on an operating scheme for this layout.

Since Mr Faraway's (Reinhard) layout is "loosely" based on the LAJ here's a link to my LAJ PowerPoint slides: http://tinyurl.com/caqaxup
These images will be used at my clinic Thur. 9/6 630P-730P at the NMRA PSR convention in Oxnard CA 9/5-9/9/12: Yhttp://www.psrnmra.org/ You don't have to be an NMRA member to attend.

The LAJ Switching Maps & notes were provided by Charlie Slater who used to be a LAJ conductor. Just doing the Vernon side of the the LAJ as that's where I've done most of my railfanning plus having lived one block south of the Upper Alley Lead (S&W Fine Foods). And only modeling 6 out of the 16 Vernon leads due it all having to fit in 12' X 14' room. So there will be alot of selective compression! Questions, comments & corrections are more than welcome. Attached is my current layout plan.
