Our time is this house is counting down and I had a good thing started and then had to pull it out for house repairs. Bench work has been recycled a few times now. I would like to get reliable trackage done, ground cover and at least mock ups for structures.

Borrowed from the "Givens and Druthers" thread.

I am going to remove team track A-32 and use A-31 for the team track/loco parking.

My designer wasn't happy and did another revision.

Yard tracks have been lengthened, roads tweaked and Brookville Chemicals trackage was reworked to give it more car variety. Track A-30 will be changed to a transload track without any structures and A-32 will be Mow/RIP/diesel parking.

Removed the feed business and converted it to a team track and the former team track to a RIP track. The cassette will be in the 5' or 6' range giving me room for a loco and 5-6 cars.

Personally I like 2 and 3 and then 2 if I had to choose between them . I don't like the throat to the yard on the right side in #1 ....looks like it could cause problems with that little " hitch" there . For me I would also have the rear -most buildings and associated track slightly higher in elevation ....maybe 1 " to give more separation and a more pleasing look .

Thank you for your thoughts Teejay. Number one is out and I think three will amuse me for the next few months. I will elevate the rear buildings like you suggested. That will give things a different perspective. I am treating this as a learning exercise since we hope to put the house on the market in the spring and the modules will have to be dismantled. My future plan is going to be in a 1000-1200 sqft basement and these modules may or may not get reused.

Looks like an interesting switching layout that should be fun to operate, but not too hard to finish. Best of luck with your project.

Thanks Dingbat. I have laid a bit of track and switches to get a feel for it. I would like to get the main done and powered this weekend.

I may go to Elmira tomorrow and drop by the museum - it was closed on my first visit and I had no time on my last visit.

Very interesting layout indeed. I think the small variations between each version will have to be decided when laying track and getting a feel of the plan in real. The general concept works well, it's just a matter of adjusting a siding or two!

Hope you'll be able to wire the track this week end!

Thanks DW. I work down that way a few times a year but I've never been to the museum. I hope it is open and you enjoy it.

I'm going to give it my best shot. I haven't had anything running since last fall and really miss being able to run a train.

By putting a gantry crane on the team track & there can be coil cars, flat cars & gondolas carrying steel products like coils, beams, plates, etc. The loads could be coming in or going out. And they would be hauled in or out in trucks. Attached a USGS map of the ATSF Vernon & Los Angeles Junction Ry Fruitland Teams. The Santa Fe side handles steel products using a transfer dock, gantry crane & ramp. The LAJ side handles flour & grain in airslides & covered hoppers. More recently the LAJ side sends out dirty dirt containers in well cars. If your plan only has a narrow space for a team track, pick what ever feature you want to put on your layout. My place will be 2' wide so will have room for both team tracks. The two teams can be seen in Bing & Google aerials by using "2695 Fruitland Ave 90058".

I haven't ruled a crane out yet but I haven't finalized what I'm going to use the team track for just yet.

I got home early this afternoon and started laying out the track and am pretty satisfied how it looks. The large curve leaving the yard going to Schurmans concrete and McCains seems a bit tight but did handle a B23-7 and 52' gon being pushed through it. I may be able to adjust it a bit once the first track is fastened to the table.
