Thanks Tetters, I'm in the middle of cutting out a very long river and will post pics real soon, this was another of my crazy ideas.

Ok so the new river has been cutout and I managed to get a very long piece of plywood in place ( this wasn't easy ). I sealed off the edges with silicone as I will be using envoritex and if it were to leak it would be a catastrophe destroying the lower staging. I'm not sure what I'm doing with the upper half of the river pertaining to its length , I'm also thinking of trying the ground goop for the river banks to achieve the needed texture for ground fall, any suggestions obviously appreciated?

Just in case you missed a pinhole somewhere, it might be a good idea to get a plastic tarp or plastic sheet and cover the lower level staging yard before you do the pour.

So river is on back burner for a bit...
Finally got around to starting the kit.
My first impressions of this kit are wow what a ton of wood and castings, the more I read the instructions the easier they were to understand, well so far anyway.
I painted the wood or most of the wood with floquil grime then gave a soaking of A\I , didn't seem to change it much, this makes me wander if its the type of wood used in the fsm kits.
I decided to use the diorama base as a working table, I matched up the template and taped it to the wooden base then covered it with saran wrap.
I glued the mill floor beams down and next will glue down the log table.

Sorry I'm so slow on an update, Ive been working the nite shift which is quite draining, plus I did decide I was going to take my time with this kit and so far I've really been enjoying it.

Finally got the floor and log decking completed and transfered over to the base. I decided to make the base bigger, 11x20" I found the original size too tight for comfort and I now how room for additional sheds. The wood foor and log decking are glued in place with white glue and I did the same with the sifted base ball diamond dirt.






As you can see I've also got a good start on the floor.

It certainly looks an interesting build Lynn, and having seen your work, you will no doubt do it justice.
A great start so far, and I am looking forward to seeing it materialize in the following posts.

As a matter of interest.... is 11" x 20" the total footprint of the saw mill now?
.....and what was the original size.


and......do you build all your kits on baseboards ie: so you are able to set the scene around them, or do you transplant and fix everything individually onto your layout.

Thanks Jack for the vote of confidence. When I'm referrinf to the foot print I'm referring to the dio base, I originally had it as 7.5 x 15" and now its 11 x 20" the fsm plan calls for 11x 22 so I'm more in the ball park now. I centred the sawmill centre of the wood base . First off most of my dio's were built by Madmike , your probably familar with his works, personally I think large builds should be done as a dio , its much more comfortable to sit and work on , for smaller area's where there built up within a town area I feel that its better to build the building set it in place and build up the scenery around it.
