Larry, I need to do some research on shortlines in Texas. As I mentioned, just not much in Houston. There may be a shortline down in Galveston, need to check that out. May also be some up north of Houston too.
Gary,For starters there' the Galveston Railroad which operates 38 miles of track serving the Galveston Port Authority.GVSR is a Genesee & Wyoming Inc. (GWI) short line.There are several short lines in Texas..

You also have the Galveston Railroad Museum .

Give this Wikipedia page a shot http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Texas_railroads You'll find all sorts of short lines, switching and terminal companies and industrials listed for Texas. Use this list as a starting point to search for web sites, information or photos for individual lines.
That's a lot of shorties. Thumbsup

That last photo is awesome! Weeds all over the right of way, and a string of boxcars behind the engine.
