Gern is like Arm & Hammers Baking soda, you add it to products to increase productivity or create a product, it's simple and there for can add it to a plethora of materials, it's been refined and perfected as a multi-use product. The only way competitive you can go is to "add" to an existing good product like toothpaste or a detergent already from the factory

IIRC, the original time engine used plutonium fuel and needed a massive electrical charge of 1.2 Jigawatts, hence the "capacitor" element. After Brown's trip to the future, his capacitor ran on ordinary kitchen garbage and no longer required a massive electrical buildup; however, a ground speed of 88 mph was apparently still mandatory.

The term "flux" seems to have referred to the change that the capacitor induced in the fabric of Time, not to GERN - as in, "Time is in a state of flux". 8-)

This is truly ironic -according to the GERN principle, this thread should have 3% more posters than any other thread. 8-)

I think that the capacitor was still electrical, but the electricity was provided by "Mr Fusion" home reactor that could be fuelled by garbage and kitchen scraps. Wink

You have to understand, I have an older computer, with older software, so........I have to be careful, the use of GERN Flux would make my old computer 3% more vulnerable to spam, and viruses. Besides, I'm getting to old to "run" that fast ! Big Grin

On another GERN subject; Does the "company" own or lease rolling stock, and what would be the paint scheme. I ask because, while I was re-organizing my basement, I came across an old kitbash project, a 76', 34.650 gallon, Aluminum tank w/steel underframe tank car, built in 1968, by GATX, equipped with two 150 ton 3 axle trucks.
I thought it might see service as a "Flux Slurry" transporter. So, I could use the following information:
Reporting marks, and numbers, Color of car, and a logo, if there is one for rolling stock.
There's no major rush here, I still have a few unfinished projects left to complete.

Pete, there are currently 69 pieces of GERN rolling stock in use, 18 of which are tank cars. The reporting mark for all GERN cars is GILX (GERN Industries Limited) and car numbers are available by contacting me via PM or e-mail. There are no specific GERN paint schemes, so the individual can make his or her cars as realistic or outlandish as they wish, and the product carried is left up to the car's owner.

NICE!!!!! I've gotta make a couple of GERN covered hoppers and tankers. Since this is the most active GERN thread right now I thought I'd provide an update about the Upper Hudson Valley Cement Flux Division's facilities. Up until now my GERN plant was serving just as a way to hide some track on two levels that were close to each other. The industry wasn't really served by rail on my layout. I've reconfigured some track to create two spurs for a new loading site (pictured in the middle of the photo with the cylindrical hopper and vertical storage tanks) where tank cars and covered hoppers can be spotted.

The stroage tanks were inspired by a photo Reinhard posted a while ago of some he had made. I liked the way they looked!

It's good to actually be able to do business with GERN now. The Penn Central was getting a bit frustrated about not accessing revenue from this global giant. Certainly now that GERN is a regular customer 1970 should be a banner year of prosperity for the railroad! Goldth

Yup! The sludge, normally considered industrial dross, is a by-product of flux processing, and is a key ingredient of Food Grade Flux. Also, further refining yields the basic material upon which Medicinal Grade Flux is based.

a general dissatisfaction, on your part, with GERN.

Like all other GERN modellers. you're free to add to the product line. I would think that with the fantasy theme of your Pandorum layout, you'd be not only a staunch supporter of such a fantastic product, but also one who'd be coming up with innovative new product lines.
