I use a printed Walthgers catalog and the online Walthers shop.

Hi,

Just caught up on this thread, superb structure building.

I was thinking of ordering from Walthers direct as I now need a lot of detail parts to finish Palmetto ie roof details, dumpsters, pallets etc and
even CSX boxcars. I've sourced everything from UK retailers, but now need to order from the US.

Do you find Walthers expensive for postage to Europe?

thanks,

Mal

Mal, I do order engines and other expensive stuff direct from various US dealers (shipping is 30 - 40$) but I do order small parts from Walthers via the German dealer AAT. For UK Walthers lists this one:

Model Junction
916 Yeovil Road
Slough Trading Estate
Berkshire, SL1 4JG
Great Britain
Phone: 01753-528360
Fax: 01753-528360

I think it is a trade off between shipping from US and an "impressive" exchange rate used by your local dealer. My local dealer gets delivery weekly. I have to wait for US parcels 2-4 weeks and have to pick them up at the local customs office (and pay 19%)...
Russ Bellinis Wrote:...Many communities have been cracking down on grafitti....
Russ, the result is impressive. We have here in a middle class neighborhood more grafitti than in that LA area.
Graffiti also varies from community to community. Vernon has a population of about 100 residents. The city is probably 98% commercial or industrial property. Typically most of the graffiti is created by local residents, so you will find less in Vernon because there really aren't very many local residents. In many of the industrial areas of L.A. there are also few residents, so less graffiti. In those areas with more residents, and mostly renters rather than home owners, or large gang populations, there is a lot more graffiti.
Thanks for the info, Reinhard

I use Model Junction in the UK for most of my purchases and their service is excellent.
I think I will use them to order direct from Walthers for me.

regards,

Mal

Amazing work as always. I have a idea you could come help me with my layout as soon as you are done with yours lol  Worship
I did not like the way how the four buildings are spaced to cover the background of the center part. A fifth building is required to get a closed front of buildings.
Daniel is the solution. He runs at 905 South Santa Fe an embroidery that fits the gaps perfect.

And here my implementation. Security gates are great to have nice details on plain simple walls. I love them!
All windows became black holes and invible security gates without flash and all walls became white shiny with flash...

The central part has reached it's final layout. It is ready for details now.

The LHS had a simple KFC kit on special sale. I could not resist and got one and glued it together as a temporary solution for the triangle area on the right hand. I think I felt in love with it and will look for a more permanent setup.

Problem is there is no KFC around Santa Fe Ave and the next two (South Central and Broadway) look very different. This little gem from the corner at Minerva / E.25 St was planned to be on the triangle.

Yet another little gem of find, Reinhard, as you say.

I expect the problem with modelling this to scale would be that folks would say that you hadn't applied the adhesive properly or that your chosen adhesive had reacted badly with the corrugated covering and the 'shell' beneath. Icon_lol

Best wishes,

Jonte
A wonderful selection, wherever you find an "opening" for it...love how the corrugated is "bent" around the near corner - perhaps there is a model railroad inside, and this allows a curved backdrop ? Bob C
I am not happy with the five semi prototype buildings placed on a plaza like area in the center background. They do not really fit in the industrial area with rail served industries.

I am thinking about an other approach to model the more modern part of Vernon (instead of the low profile area around Santa Fe Ave.). A new modern road with sidewalks in the center running to the background with modern (slab) building on both sides. The properties would have loading docks for trucks (left hand) and parking lot for limousines (right hand). The right hand building might have a fancy glass entrance area.

ps. Don't worry. The five building rest under the layout. They can be put back with a minute.

Hey Reinhard,

Looking good!!! As always....

I know what you mean about the buildings looking out of place. It is so easy to find unique structures but you need to keep the theme running through all the buildings but keep the Railway in mind and the areas... Like me, I would love colourful big buildings but honestly already I have too much of a mix match, going to have to try tone it down and get things a little more alike... Either way though I like the new changes, already feels better and I can see where it's headed and it looks good!
Reinhard, are you changing things again?? :o Big Grin

Looking forward to the next installment Thumbsup
A quick first shot of the new sidewalks, streets and first raw building walls.

Gary, not changing, just minor alignments Big Grin

and the right hand side too. Again the raw walls only to get an impression what I am going for. The "black hole" in the wall shall be the home of a modern/fancy entrance made of glass. I did never do that before and expect to have a rough ride on the learning curve.
