The German brand "Faller" has industry silos (part number 130476) that are basically intended for cement but might be used very flexible. I plan to to mix and blend some of them with an industry building. Vernon has a couple of industries with silos and tanks. That industry will be a good reason to handle covered hoppers and tank cars.
Woah! Those look nice. Hmmm..... where can I put some of those on my layout?
I really like them alot. Thanks for the heads-up!

I have a set of those "Faller" silos (3 to be exact) that came with a kit I brought years ago and have been looking for an excuse to use them on my layout. Would work for any of several industries.
Those are great looking silos, and yes, I see similar structures at several kinds of industries.

I was thinking the same thing!
It is surprising. It was easy to find a prominent GERN facitity in Vernon. Streetview is so very helpful to locate GERN locations
ps. Notice the red valves in the foreground...
Perhaps those red-valves are used to unload GERN flux?
The industry still needs to be switched on a daily base. Construction work on the layout has been temporary suspended for trip preparation
As a result of seeing the real Vernon I decided to tone down the trackage. I got some dirt from the road, cooked it in the micro wave and sieved it.
The result was glued as a fine uneven layer over the perfect gray ballast and the perfect white sand. That did also change the overall tone from gray to brown and matches Vernon better.
I should find an even more fine ground cover. The prototype has large patches with ground cover fine as dust.
I did not continue with the slab buildings. Vernon has so much older buildings that look similar to mine build after prototypes in southern LA. I will concentrate on details etc. to get the look and feel of what I have seen in Vernon. But some green is planned. It is April after a rainy spring on my layout.
He, he,he, adjusted"...
I like that .
Sounds almost like 'mafia speak'.

Looking good Reinhard! Are you going to try modeling any of the buildings where they put a modern fascia on the street side of the old building and left the older construction as is, flaking paint, rust, and all on the railroad side?
