Any buildings in the area between the center (south yard) and the new industry would hide the yard throat. It is therefor virtually empty and got only some containers. It looks like it is part of the backyard of the industry. I need free sight to do switching.

Thanks for the kind words.

The hatch in front of the door is a leftover from the last layout. It will be cleaned soon. I plan to continue with brick buildings as I started with the freelance building on the right side of the photo. There are furthermore strict constrains in position and hight of buildings to fit on the open hatch.
However I have very little experience with brick buildings and all builds I saw in Vernon look very complicated if you look at the details.
This is an example of a building in a row in south LA (Industrial St) I like and that would fit.

Reinhard, Design Preservation Models has a variety of modular-style brick wall sections available that might be a good starting point for the structures which you want to build.

My DPM stock is currently drained. More than a year ago Cornerstone had a special sale on their bulk packs. I got some and plan to use them as a supply for individual parts but not complete wall elements.

Reinhard, I think you meant 100 miles EAST. 100 miles west would put you in the Pacific Ocean @ 50 miles west of Santa Catalina Island.

Scuba divers are somewhat over optimistic Big Grin

It is an Uhlenbrock Intellibox I. It is not longer available and has been replaced by the IB II http://www.uhlenbrock.de/intern/index.htm Their web site has no English version and no deep links. You will find it via "Produkte/Products" and then "Digitalzentralen/Central Units". They have a good market share here in Germany.
Reinhard--- you have a real talent of making scenes come alive, great work Thumbsup
Operation "hatch" has been started today.
Phase 1 is the poplar cleaning cycle.... A piece of cork could not resist the immense enthusiasm of the cleaning crew Big Grin

Reinhard, your layout is getting better and better. I hope you’ll stay with Vernon. When I come back after being away from the forum for a few days, I am always surprised how much you got done on your layout in the meantime. Would take me ten times longer to get results that look so good. Keep it going Thumbsup Thumbsup .

Stein, you bet, I will! It was a very good idea to go to Vernon and the south LA area and get a personal impression with a "guided tour". Vernon became a little bit "my Vernon" now Big Grin
The weekend has been used to cross the "cork dessert" on the hatch with a road. The photo is about the view from my office chair. I want to look into the street and see the building fronts on both sides as a default view.

ps.We did also pass Dalhart, TX on our trip. I don't know why but I like that little town in the panhandle with it's crossing railroads. If I will ever do a layout located at the country side Dalhart might play an important role.
That is a nice looking layout, has a very gritty/realistic look!
The building from Industrial St in South LA (prototype photo posted 8/19) is currently on the work bench. I am somewhat short on space and have to reduce it from five to four elements only.

The raw box has been glued together and the front got some base coat. It is 00:46h and time to let the glue and paint set.
