shortliner Wrote:Reinhard - I dont know if this will work, but it might. Put the grey sandpaper in the scanner and scan it and then print the scan giving grey paper - draw the black line grid on the computer with any patches and then print that on the previously made grey paper - it may even be possible to print the grid direct onto the sandpaper in the printer
I did not follow the "computer solution" any further. Two more roofs have been made this morning in the same way as I did it yesterday. It went well with the right black pen and paint that does not fight the pen. It is like most things in layout construction, I need some practice and it becomes better each time. It is still not good enough but better than the last one Wink

The tarred-joints will never be perfectly straight anyway, as they will flow slightly under the heat of the gas-torch when layed - they look fine to me!
Heavy rain in the upcoming spring let the green grow over night. We will see how much green will stay after the vacuum session tomorrow morning :o

I wanted to have a more universal ground cover providing more choices for a freelance layout. e.g. is an all sand ground not a good choice for my Central Florida CF7 while Santa Fe is still in scope of the green added. I did intentionally refrain from grass applied with the Noch grass master. The used "burned grass" turf has a lower profile. Some grass patches might be applied later.

seems to become better and better Thumbsup Thumbsup Thumbsup

Thomas, thanks. Will go ahead with that approach when more roofs are to be made. Only minor problem are some poorly glued rims.

Tyson, Larry, the turf survived the vacuum session unharmed (only two Coke cans are reported missing Sad ). My method of doing turf is a robust one.
1. Sputter water on the ground
2. Spread the turf with two fingers
3. Very careful sputter a fine mist of water again on top of the turf. Be patient or the still dry turf will fly everywhere.
4. Add the usual water/glue mix from ballasting with a pipette
It is as robust as concrete or ballast after the glue has set. It looks soft but it feels like stone. It is a good base for further details.
G'day All,
Regarding the roofing material discussion. Like a few modellers on 'Big Blue' I don't have any direct access to the type of asphalt sheet(?) roofing that has been discussed. In Australia roofing is usually tiles (mainly on houses), corrugated metal, or one of the various forms of `ribbed' metal sheets with a coloured coating. While the hand colored method seems to be the best, would the following Scalescenes printable sheet be suitable:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.scalescenes.com/products/TX34-Roof-Cladding">http://www.scalescenes.com/products/TX34-Roof-Cladding</a><!-- m -->
Also, what are the common dimensions of the asphalt roofing sheets/strips? They may have been written somewhere but our 43degree Celsius day has got to me.
Regards,
Andrew G.

The dimension I've often seen for "roll roofing" is 36 inches wide.
Excellent progress, Reinhard! Thumbsup

Roofing question...
Asphalt roofing felt, usually called "tar paper," comes in rolls 3' wide x 36' long.

All the green added about a week ago was burned grass turf. Some real grass patches have been added with the Noch Grassmaster yesterday. The have been put on top of the turf and blend seamless into the green ground cover.

ps. The photo is an urgent reminder to clean my tracks from green residuals and fill the hole from a former switch machine.
Looks great ! Thumbsup
Great Thumbsup

I cant wait to see it next month with my own eyes

The new kids are switching at the elevator and waiting in the yard. But most of all they wait to get the lamps they deserve and MU hoses.
Both engines are running nicely. Not as good as Atlas and Kato but surprising close to.

I did not see the askew decal "3807" until dull coat has been sprayed and the engine was finally assembled Curse

Daniel, looking forward to meet you Thumbsup

I hate it when that happens! That said both engines look pretty darn good to me.
