Perth, Ontario -- my Hometown
Posted by: BR60103 - 02-03-2009, 09:13 PM - Forum: Canada Rails - Replies (8)

I lived in Perth until 1959. I have a few pictures of trains at the station.
Perth was on the CPR mainline between Montreal and Toronto, west of Smiths Falls.
These pix were taken with a Brownie and printed as 3x3 snapshots.

2224 eastbound.

4083 on the afternoon passenger to Toronto plus the mail/express car.

I was looking at some pamphlets to get some ideas for a day trip when I came across one for the New Hope and Ivyland railroad when I saw some one familiar """ME""". Icon_lol I have not visited there in a few years but there I was in there picture. I guess now I'm famous 35

 Day trip for Gauge members
Posted by: e-paw - 02-03-2009, 06:59 PM - Forum: Upper Berth - Replies (153)

I was thinking about a nice day trip for Gauge members in the eastern Pa ,western Jersey area.
(of course all are welcome that want to join in) I checked some spots and figured that we could check out the #9 coal mine in Lansford Pa. http://www.no9mine.com and near by Jim Thorp the same day. In Jim Thorp there is the former CNJ station used by the Lehigh gorge scenic railway (they offer a train ride along the Lehigh river that we could take) there is also an Ho layout in the building next door. There are plenty of other things to do in Jim Thorp. I would like to set this up for this spring or summer let me know what you think and if you want to go so we can set a date. I am open to any other ideas so if you got one lets here it.

Attendee List with mileage to Scranton, PA:

 I hope you're all having....

As good a week as I am. I am getting ready to do a months worth of locomotive engineer and brakeman training in Jamaica of all places in a couple of weeks. This makes all of the dirty, snowy, cold, dank, crapholes I trained at all winter worth it! I just found out I saved $6,000.00 in lodging expenses due to a mix-up with the client (I thought I was going to have to pay lodging at their corporate lodging, turns out, THEY pay it), I just started a new business relationship with a large rail company this morning on a conference call, and got great news from another one I am working for that they just aquired 30 new sites. More work than I think I could handle, so I may have to call a friend of mine out of retirement to help out. Always a great feeling to have that problem in today's economy! I got an email that my 2 new custom Bachmann Centennials are now in the mail and headed here, I just got offered a great deal on a low mileage immaculate 2006 Chrysler Sebring for Alicia (Candy Apple Red, her favorite color!), and now I get a call from the son of a late friend of mine that the family wants to sell me his collection of Old West Firearms (I do Old West Gunfighter shows) and am going over there in a couple of hours to pick them up. Bob was a GREAT man, a wise old man who had a HUGE impact on my life and inspired me to take life one day at a time and enjoy it. He was loved by EVERYONE who he ever came in contact with in the Old West Reenactment community, (www.spiritsoftheoldwest.org) as he was the legendary, infamous "Bandit Bob Missouri". To be given his custom made leather rig to go with the pistol is a real honor. His trademark pistol is an identical twin to one I already have. Ruger Vaquero, .45Colt, Stainless Steel finish, ivory grips with conchos replacing the Ruger medalion, and a competition trigger spring and main spring kit for quickdraw competitions. We bought them at the same time, he got one, I got the other. Beautiful pistols. Together, we were "The Missouri Gang" as that is where we are both from. He passed away suddenly 2 years ago, and I miss him dearly, our whole team does. I didn't have the cash to get the collection, and was kinda bummed, but my little brother (himself a gunfighter) called my dad and they both called and insisted they loan me the money until we collect on the Jamaica job. Not a bad day considering it started with severe indigestion, a sleepless night and an abcess over one of my teeth this morning huh?

I hope ALL of you, my friends here at the Gauge have been having as great a week as I have been so far. I pop into several model railroad forums, but THIS is "HOME". I really enjoy your company and commaraderie, and really appreciate your kindness and friendship. May you and yours, ALL, be blessed ALWAYS.

 Need wheelsets
Posted by: nachoman - 02-03-2009, 10:04 AM - Forum: HO Modeling - Replies (9)

I need wheelsets that have 1.5mm axles. I need 1 45" diameter set, and two that are either 33 or 36" wheels. Unfortunately, the manufacturers don't usually list the axle sizes. I thought before I start contacting manufacturers, it may be quicker to ask here and see if anyone knows.

Model Railroaders Dream, Plan, Build DVD Series
Posted by: Trucklover - 02-02-2009, 10:48 PM - Forum: Lower Berth - Replies (15)

Who here is getting the Model Railroader Dream Plan Build DVD Series in the mail? I believe they send them to you only if you subscribe to the magazine, but im not sure

I got the first one a while back, watched it, thought it was okay, decided to keep it, forgot i had it and forgot to pay for it for a few months (whoops) Icon_lol then paid for it (was only $9.95) and then just got the second DVD in the series, Volume II. Both have come with a medal with trains from the past and the "Model Railroader Dream, Plan, Build" words on them, there kinda neat i guess. This time i got the DVD, a new medal, and a display stand for the metals. Its pretty cool, i now have the first 2 medals and the first 2 DVD's from the series

But i went on to read it, and this DVD, Volume II is twice the price as Volume I, being $19.95 and there sticking you for the shipping this time to ship it to you which is $4.75 to ship the display stand. I could have done without it, and just got the DVD and medal, but i guess its kinda cool

Letter says, keep it for 21 days, if you dont like it, return in the pre-paid envelope. If you want to keep it, you send payment in the pre-paid envelope. So if i want to keep this one, and keep getting the rest of the series, along with each new metal, i have to pay $24.95 for Volume II. Something which i have not decided if it is worth as of this time. I do want to keep receiving future Dream, Plan, Build DVD's but im just not sure its worth $24.95. Im really hoping if i continue to receive future DVD's by paying for Volume II, that they will be less then $19.95.

Well i guess ill watch it and see what i think, maybe delay for a few months like Volume I LOL

Anyone else get these?

 DMIR in MR

Okay, so there is no real article about it, but I was flipping through my newest MR mag, and boy was I happy to see a big picture of a SDM leading some empties up Proctor Hill. Its the article picture for the DCC article. They explain how to simulate loads on hills or something like that, I never had a chance to read it yet. But it was cool to see!

 DIGITRAX WITH SOUND
Posted by: Lester Perry - 02-02-2009, 08:40 PM - Forum: DCC - Replies (9)

I just installed my first Digitrax decoder It was a DH160LO it is designed to go in P2K GP7 or 9. I installed it in a Riverossi 4-6-4. Then plugged in a Sound Bug SFX004. Now I found the instructions hard to follow and proceded to burn out both units. Digitrax replaced both of them for me no charge. They told me go to their website for better directions. I said I can't so they mailed it to me. I feel they should include it with decoder. The problem is when the soundbug is hooked up with the decoder. Not in my wireing of the locomotive. I tried another decoder with 8 pin plug it worked fine. Anyway on with the story. Using the newly received instructions I proceeded with no problem. I have not fine tuned it yet but I already love it. F7 gives you a crossing signal whistle, it has all the sounds I want. the chuff rate is apparently not changeable. I have contacted them about this and will update when I know
