After much research, I finally turned up a photo of the obscure and secretive headquarters of GERN Industries. According to GERN officials who spoke on condition of anonymity, the facade was modeled to reflect the facial features and hairstyle of the founder's beloved wife, Murgatroyd.

Hey all

So, I am a member of the Northern Pacific Railway Historical Association and every year they have a convention. I have missed all 3 years I have been a member, but this year... this year I finally get to go. It will be in the middle of building our house, but I am going.

Here's where it gets fun. It's being held in St. Paul, MN. From Boise, its a straight flight or a one hop thru Denver, depending on who you like to fly with. As I was calling AAA and hitting Orbitz and the other online travel sites, I thought, "This is silly. I am buying a plane ticket to get to a train convention." So, I hung up the phone and opened another tab on my browser and hit Amtrak. Yes, I will have to drive to Spokane to catch the train, but what better way of traveling to this kind of thing?!?

A really nice perk is that the ticket cost is the same as the straight flight. Sure, I will have to drive 6.5 hrs to Spokane. Sure, I will have to spend an evening with my bro-in-law who doesn't see eye to eye with me. Sure, the travel time is 27 hours. BUT... it's 27 hours on a train. I haven't ridden a train for travel in 30 years.

Anyway, I just bought the tix and thought if there were any other folks headed that away, we might hook up for a beer or three...

I have a question on where the ditch lights go on an older model Athearn Genesis loco. this is the first run im assuming, cuz you have to install all the details and such and they are not listed on Athearn's web site anymore

This is a BNSF SD75I, it came with 2 little light bulbs for the ditch lights, but i dont know where the wires go and where they should be soldered. Ive never done anything like this before and i didnt see anything in the instructions on how to do this....

I followed and weaved the wires where i believe they are supposed to go ( down through the anticlimber, through the top of the frame, and up through the whole where the front of the cab rests)

Can someone tell me where these wires need to go?

I dont know this will effect it or not, but i will be running this in DCC and will need to install a decoder in it... that will come later though, do i need to wait to hook up these wires?

Hi guys

im wondering if someone can help me out with a problem im having with 8 Roundhouse 60' Bulkhead Flatcars.

The trucks on them are rubbing/dragging it feels like, making the car not so free rolling. Do i need some kind of spacer between the trucks and the frames? This will probably mean i will also need longer screws since the ones provided arnt very long....

Anyone else have this problem? I found it odd that all 8 Bulkheads have the same issue

Will Atlas Parts fit on RTR Athearn locos?

I have 3 Athearn RTR GP38-2's that need misc. details like horns, snow plows.... wondering if i can use Atlas parts to install on Athearn locos without any problems?

hey everyone,due to the recent post about bowsers steam kits being discontinued,im buying a few locos and was wondering,could i get away with having a 4-6-0 as my logging "mainline" loco? i know its older style and it would fit into a 1940's scene but i didnt know if they used them or not.thanks.--josh

Hi, All. Sorry, I have some sad news for those who want to build Bowser locos...prodded by a post from "Top Train" A the "other" gauge, e-mailed Bowser, and got a confirmation from Lee English that the locomotive KITS are to be discontinued. RTR locos, and PARTS will still be available. Apparently customers want RTR - the locomotive kits aren't paying the rent. Bowser's locos are unique in their quality for the dollar, and (for a Pennsy guy), examples of prototypes rarely available from other sources. Business is rough for everyone right now,so I hope Lee hangs on to the kit format and that we can give him reason to release them again. (No, I have no affiliation with Bowser , or English Hobbies - but my first HO loco was a Penn-Line {now Bowser} L-1 Mikado) Thanks for listening. Bob C.

I does get annoying that Coil Cars are hard to find, like well cars and autoracks. I picked up a 2pc coil car cover that fits already made kit coil cars, how fun is that?

I found a Hood set at my LHS



STATE TOOL & DIE CO makes them, they also make the cradle for them to fit them into gondolas but my LHS didnt have any, so I decided to make a solid coil car out of flat car spine from an older AHM 45" flat car.



I pulled the wooden deck off



I cut some 1/4in wood up and made a frame around the hoods, I used plastiweld as a quick stick, then added the wood glue for a better bond



And it doesn't look too bad for now....



To be continued, I still have a lot to do like paint red oxide and decal some conrail on it, add some better couplers, etc...
