The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #X.. Stop In!!!
Greetings, gang.

It's a brisk -9 outside my window this morning with a predicted high in the low teens above zero. Colder temperatures next week. Got about 3 inches of snow yesterday, the low end of the predicted 3-5 inches.

Other than cleaning the sidewalks I didn't accomplish a lot yesterday. I may try the gym today if the pool heater is fixed.

All stay safe.

THURSDAY 2/13/25
Hello Blue
It's a cloudy 23 degrees with about 4 inches of new snow on the ground.
With more snow in the weekend forecast the club house will be closed Friday night and our monthly meet has been changed to the 22nd.
No other train news.

Everything dumped on us overnight. While the grounds crew cleared roads and sidewalks nicely, the Post Office cancelled deliveries and pickups. I just found the notice about this after supper.
There is about 3 feet accumulated on the deck and a similar amount under the bird feeder.

Happy Valentine's Day, gang.

Coincidentally it's currently 14 degrees outside my window this morning. Maybe another 10 degrees will be added to that by the end of the day. Also schedules is another 3-4 inches of snow by tomorrow. Winds could hit 35 mph so any snow will create serious driving hazards.

Shoveled the sidewalk one more time yesterday morning but skipped the gym. I may try again today. One of the great-grandsons has a concert this evening but with the weather conditions attendance will be a last minute decision.

Gas was $3.19 last night.

All stay safe.

Good morning folks

It is 29, heading up to 33. The wind is very biting this morning along the Schuylkill River.

Today is the Eagles Parade so there is not much going on at the work site today. They are flooding the forebay today in anticipation of the start of the removal of the cofferdam on Monday. It will take 4 to 6 weeks to completely remove the cofferdam.

The past few nights have been spent keeping an eye on the new heater. We had a tech out again on Monday and he flushed the system again. This time he may have gotten it right as things seem to be running properly.

Not sure what the weekend holds. Weather is going troublesome with snow and frozen mix on Saturday and rain on Sunday. That pretty much means little to no outside work. Inside there is the never-ending laundry. Also have some of the usual household cleaning chores. We will need to run to pharmacy, grocery store, and PetSmart.

On the layout I may work on some more scenery such as adding trees, bushes, and overgrowth. I may ballast some track will I am at. I hope to build some Accurail kits and perhaps finally get back to assembling the passenger station platforms. And lastly, run some trains.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Greetings, gang.

It's a snowy, cloudy 23 degrees outside, going all the way up to ....25. Yeah, not gonna get much warmer today. Got about 3 inches of snow yesterday and another inch over night. Prediction is for another 2-4 inches before the day is over. Looks like the back order for all the snow we didn't get for the last 3 months has arrived.

Decent workout at the gym yesterday. Swam for a half mile (yes, the pool heater had been fixed), did some resistance work, and then a mile on the elliptical. Mid afternoon the snow blower helped me remove yesterday;s accumulation and is currently standing ready to help again today. Along with my weekly laundry that should fill up my day.

All stay safe.

It's been hovering around freezing all morning, got a dusting of snow which started on my way home from the park with the dog.

Finished the last layer of static grass in the foreground area I'm working in the gorge, took some pix.

My granddaughter (who will be 2 in May) is apparently big on the words "Pop Pop" and "Choo Choo", so I've been fielding a bunch of Facetime videos from Texas with the top half of her head.  Been running trains for her to her delight.  I also showed my mom the finished Hazleton a couple of nights ago via Facetime.  Sometimes tech can be pretty cool.

Day off from work.  The last few weeks as a supervisor of government employees has been difficult.  A lot of conversations we don't generally have, and I worry a great deal for my younger engineers and technicians.  A lot of brooding which leads to a lot of long nights.

I'm gonna try to get the paints and brushes back out later this afternoon to paint rock faces, and depending on my supply of plaster rocks, I may get the molds out as well while I watch the battle for last place in the Big10 basketball - Penn State hosts Washington in what will probably be a pretty ugly basketball game.

Greetings, gang.

-3 at the moment going to maybe -1 later on. Brutal cold this week with temperatures below zero through Thursday.

Spent a lot of time Saturday clearing snow. Then had to go out yesterday and clear off part of the sidewalk where a neighbor with a new snowblower cleaned his driveway onto my sidewalk. Also blasted the side of my house. Not a big deal this time but in the future he could be blasting chunks of ice against the house which would not be good for my insulated vinyl siding.

All stay safe.

Good morning folks

It is 29 currently with a brutal wind blowing at 25 mph with gust at 50 mph. High today will be 35.

The winds were a lot stronger yesterday with gusts up to 70 mph. We lost power about 5:30 PM yesterday afternoon and it was restored finally about 8 AM this morning. The winds destroyed our backyard gazebo. I am not to upset over it as it needed replacing any way. Rust from being out there for the past 12 or 13 years had taken their toll on it.

Before all the fun began, we did our errands over the weekend at the pharmacy and grocery store. We did some early spring cleaning in the dining room by moving a couple of pieces of furniture and cleaning where they were. I was able to get some laundry done.

I built some Accurail kits on Saturday. On Sunday after the power went out I actually worked on converting the couplers from McHenry’s to Kadee’s on four Athearn/Roundhouse chemical tank cars. I also added screws to the coupler pockets.

My power outage work set up.

When I get home from work I will be taking a walk around the property to see if anything besides the gazebo was damaged by the winds.

I hope everybody has a good day.

At the example/suggestion of one of the neighbours, I checked the inputs/outputs for the furnace and the water heater. I put on my biggest boots and walked over/through the snow -- nearing a yard deep. The exhaust from the heaters seems to have melted an open area around the pipes. There was one other pipe -- 2" black plastic -- running down nearly to the ground but open. It got the snow cleared from around it but I don't know what it does. The nearest thing inside is the sump pump but it shouldn't dump onto the garden.

Didn't lose any trees in the gales that Tom and Mikey mentioned. I always cautiously take a look at the big walnut at the edge of my property that I built my shed under. Just have this feeling that I'm going to see a major limb impaling the roof someday.

We're supposed to be heading for Charlotte on Friday. It's alumni weekend for my wife (UNCC class of 1987) where she played basketball. Hoping the upcoming snows don't impede our ability to leave.

No railroad progress after Friday night due to my winning the contract to paint all of the major rooms on the main floor (walls and ceilings) of my house. I'd previously been told that my work didn't measure up and she was hiring professionals. Laid on the guilt trip and promised I'd do my best work, but that meant that my weekends and evening will be spent in my painter's clothes. It also means I'll be getting my two sections of scaffolding out to do my 15' high great room and stairwells that her painter quoted her $2800 to accomplish. At least I'm saving money.
