The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #X.. Stop In!!!
Temps here were forecast for the low 50's so my son booked a tee time at a course near Frederick, MD yesterday. Front nine wasn't too bad even with the breeze, but by the time we made the turn (about 2:30), the sun was much less impactful and the breeze became a gale. Took my ears about 20 miles to completely thaw.

Other than golf and work, life has been all paint every day. I should complete the family room and it's appendages sometime today and I can dismantle the two sections of BilJack scaffolding and take it back out to my shed and store it for a good long time (I hope). The 15' ceilings have been a bear, up the steps to the 2nd floor even worse.

After this I get to.... paint more rooms! Kitchen, living room, dining room, laundry, master bedroom. Model railroading on hold!

Spring has nearly sprung, so the annual mulching/weeding/grass cutting will commence after painting. Model railroading on hold!

Greetings, gang.

More up and down weather in the remote reaches of northern Iowa. After a cool weekend it's supposed to get to around 60 today. Then rain starting tonight and possibly mixing with snow tomorrow night and more of that hang on to your toupee wind tomorrow with winds near 45 mph.

I had to go out and fix the plastic on the west side of my office. It had slipped out from under the retainer. Easy fix but would have been a little cleaner if the ground hadn't started to thaw. Right not maybe the top half inch has thawed which left a nice coating of mud on my shoes and on the ladder steps. The shoes are clean and I'll get the ladder cleaned today when I get the hose out to wash the car. Also need to hit some grocery stores.

All stay safe.

Good evening folks

It is currently 38. Supposedly our high was 41. We did not have a lot of wind but what we had sure made things feel a lot colder.

The recent high winds we have been having, including Friday and Saturday have now claimed three things. They are the backyard gazebo, a piece of flashing from the highest point on the house, and a downspout.

We did some running on Saturday to Kohl’s and Stapels to make returns for Amazon and Ortho Feet. We began putting up the St. Patrick Day decorations. I did some laundry. Sunday was more laundry and we finished the decorations. We pulled the couch away from the way to rescue numerous dog and cat toys along with corralling several dust bunnies.

I started to run some trains but then issues began. After several hours of troubleshooting why the locos were suddenly stalling at certain location I was finally able to determine it was a bad piece of track. Of course it was a piece I had recently ballasted. I pulled the piece out and replaced and the issue went away. I assembled an Athearn blue box pink Farnham covered hopper, and 10 Accurail steel reefers. My next structure project arrived.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Greetings, gang.

Gonna be another hang on to your toupee day. Winds supposed to hit near 55 mph tonight along with snow and blowing snow. Blizzard warning already posted for overnight. 2-4 inches predicted. This after yesterday's high of 62.

Yesterday was a pretty good day for me. I got the bills paid except for the water bill which chowed up later. I'll drop that off this morning when I go to the gym. Took my first bike ride of the season. Did a little over 6 miles with only minor aches and pains and so far no recurrence of the issue that kept me off the bike last year. Other than the aforementioned trip to the gym nothing major planned.

Gas was $2.79 and eggs were $6.49 when I was out yesterday.

All stay safe.

Greetings, gang.

Blizzard under way in the remote reaches of northern Iowa this morning. Currently 25 with winds around 30-35 mph with snow and blowing snow. Wind expected to hit 50 mph later.

Due to the high winds my neighborhood lost power for about 3 hours last night. Biggest problem for me right now is my main sewer line is running v-e-r-y slowly. Plumber said he will try to make it today but if he calls I will tell him to wait til tomorrow. I can make it through another day, just no shower or running the dishwasher.

In other news I spoke a little too soon yesterday, I wound up having to take some Ibuprofen for aches and pains from my bike ride the day before. Feeling ok this morning. My only physical activity for today will be running the snow blower.

Gas jumped 40 cents to $3.19 yesterday.

All stay safe.

Wednesday eve. 3/05/25
We had a hi today in the 50s. Some rain some sun.
Was out yesterday for a doc visit, routine follow-up on a stroke I had last year. Gas was $2.99 at the stations I passed.
Spent some time on the phone today fixing some things with our Visa bank and another with our mail-order pharmacy.
The pharmacy plan rolled over from last year but for some reason all the info had to be re-entered.
We stayed in today. Just watched the world go by.

Greetings, gang.

The blizzard is over and a lot of snow was moved yesterday. Wound up with about 6 inches of rather wet snow which made it more difficult to move. Another storm moves in tonight and tomorrow with a predicted accumulation of 3-7 inches. Temperatures are predicted to be in the teens and low 20s overnight with highs in the 30s during the day. Then a big warmup arrives over the weekend with highs in the 50s again for next week. Should be a rapid snow melt which is not necessarily a good thing with the ground still frozen. Could lead to some flooding.

My only activity yesterday (other than running the snow blower multiple times) was a quick trip to the gas station when I ran out of gas for the snow blower. Fully stocked now and ready for the next round of snow. This morning I'll be waiting for the arrival of the plumber. Weather conditions were so bad yesterday that I called the plumber and told him to wait until today. I t was too dangerous to be out and about. In addition it would have been difficult to even get to my house until after the snow plow had been through.

Speaking of gas stations ( I was! See previous paragraph. Come on class. keep up with me) the station that raised prices yesterday to $3.19 apparently jumped the gun as they have lowered the price back to $2.79 to be in line with the other stations around town.

Mikey - I wish we could have received the snow as rain instead!

All stay safe.

Greetings, gang.

I dodged a half a bullet overnight. The NWS predicted 1-3 inches of snow for last night but so far maybe a half inch. Another 1-3 inches predicted for today and radar shows some snow on the way. I guess we'll see what happens.

Plumbers were here yesterday and got it fixed in about a half hour. Nothing planned for today other than maybe more snow shoveling. There's a play in the next town to the east that I may go to depending on the weather and road conditions.

All stay safe.

Greetings, gang.

I dodged the other half of the bullet yesterday. Only got about an inch of snow rather than the 3 inches predicted. Out of the possible 7 inches predicted by the NWS I wound up with only about 2 between Thursday night and yesterday. Down side was that it was a very wet heavy snow that the snow blower couldn't handle. Had to shovel by had. 40s today and 50s and even some 60s next week so the snow won't stick around for long.

Not much else going on. It's Saturday so laundry day. I may walk to the grocery store, mainly for something to do. With the mild weather predicted for next week there will probably be some bike riding also. Gonna try going to a play this evening in a town about 20 miles east of me. I need to get out a little.

All stay safe.
