Photos from the backside

Lookin' good, Bob, and it's always nice to see views of our layouts that we've not seen before. For those of us with layouts bolted to the walls of the trainroom, it's still possible to "get a view from the other side", too. Simply place your digital camera on the layout, suitably aimed, tilted, and/or elevated, and press the shutter. Sometimes the picture will be useable, other times you'll have a nice shot of your prized loco with something less-suitable in the background - like your own face.

Here are a few "from the layout views" from my own layout. I'll spare you the ones where I got caught in the background , but some aren't too bad, and all are of views which one would not be able to see without the camera's help.

When you're unable to look through the viewfinder, you never know what may show in the photo. However, often you can seen the makings of a decent photo if only the camera were turned a bit to the left, or tilted downwards slightly. With a digital camera, it's easy (and free) to try again until all the elements come together to your satisfaction.
