I think that the narrow one is good for a utilitarian entrance, but both are modern compared with the house. From that point of view, either is good - so go with your wife's uhh... "opinion".
I agree with doctorwayne that if you're going for a "real" country porch, it would be big and wide and covered. And there would be a chair or two, and some other stuff...!
BTW, that's a really great house the porch is attached to!
