I saved a lot of money by not buying from Home Depot or Lowes. The local lumber companies around here seem to be a little over 10% cheaper on many of the same items, but not all of them, So shop before you buy. If you are using the foam just for sound deadening I would think all you would need would be 1/2 inch. I can't say too much because I've never used foam for roadbed.
