Lychen/deer moss

In 1969, I started using Polyester fiber ( pillow stuffing, white ), and home made, ground and died foam rubber, for trees and bushes. I never was able to accept the concept of "re-treating" my scenery, every year.
That, and I was never really thrilled with the look of Lychen based scenery.
I did, in 1974, use Asparagus fern for the branches on some scratch built conifers, that looked really good.........I now, after 38 years, have some realistic "dead" pine trees.
