Gus, is there a possibility that you've picked up some sort of a virus or some malware? Something like that is hard to diagnose. If your cookies are enabled and you've cleared everything, I'm kind of at a loss. I have no idea why Facebook won't let you stayed logged on.
Try this, log onto Big Blue, then leave for five or ten minutes and come back and see if you're still logged on. We have a timer that keeps you logged on for I think 30 minutes. I just looked and can't find it right now, but if you do come back and you're not logged on, something else is screwing things up for you.
Ralph, I think that's a function of your browser and "saved passwords". If you have several names to log on somewhere, you would have to type in the first letter for that box to know who you are. For example, both me and my wife are registered several places and I need to key in the first letter before it knows if it's me or her. It will then fill in the username and the password for us. The same goes for here. Sometimes with Firefox, it doesn't always work and I need to go to my "saved password" list, since I rarely can remember what password that I used.
