SL....The program I used is "CCleaner", and can be found at ccleaner.com. For free..!!
It's got a menu of all the items you want "cleaned out" by checking on boxes. Make sure you check the "Regedit" box as this is one of the major sources of poor performance. It also has a pretty good description and help area which is good to have.
