I picked up an RCA Pearl at Walmart for starters. It has a radio as well as a music player. If I remember, and that's kind of dicey at my age, I only paid about $20. It will rip music from cd's directly to the player.
I also have a Crosby record player that will allow me to copy my old vinyl (remember those?) records to the computer.
I'm sure there are a number of mp3 players that will do what you want.
