Unfortunately, the purchaser of the caboose seems to think that he won't be able to repair the trucks fast enough to get it to move in 60 days.
Unless we can get an extension, it looks like he is planning to cancel the purchase and the caboose will be destroyed. I sent a message to the Court Receiver about a time extension. They appear to favor plans that involve the pieces NOT being scrapped, but 60 days isn't long enough.
Apparently, people who are willing to lend us the brasses are concerned that the rusty axles might rip up their bearings. (why can't I just go polish the axles?). The purchaser also doesn't seem to like the track it would get put on (which would be a challenge to put it down), and it does appear to be difficult to get the caboose back there if this is a "roll-on-roll-off" situation.
He thinks we can get permission to place it on a better track if we rebuild the brake system, but he seems to think that could take 6 months.
The only other alternative would be if we an find a different spot to place the caboose, where the condition of the brakes was not important, and a truck can winch it on and off a trailer onto the tracks. Then, we could just get the wood-blocks made for the bearings and roll it off there.
So yeah, so much for just replacing the brasses.
