The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #X.. Stop In!!!
Greetings, gang.

Another late summer day underway in the remote reaches of northern Iowa this morning. Currently 59 headed for the mid 80s later on with hazy smokey skies.

After a less than outstanding visit to the hospital a couple of weeks ago I got a call from them wanting to know more details. I started unloading on the young (at least she sounded young) woman. her only defense was that that "some doctors want their patients there very early." She had no answer for why I was left laying in a prep room for an hour and a half before being taken to the operating room. All she did was keep apologizing which was apparently her only answer for everything.

I also got another (and hopefully the last) herd of acorns rounded up. Today I need to mow the yard Not much else planned for today.

Gas was down to $2.89 yesterday.

All stay safe.

Good morning everyone, I've been a bit sluggish posting lately, just having issues that keep me occupied trying to stay healthy.

Tom, in the two hospitals close by, it is common to have patients show up an hour and a half to two hours early, even for the simplest of procedures. One time I was in the prep room for well over two hours and I asked why, and was told, "the team" was downstairs dealing with an emergency. The problem was that I had to ask, no one would come by to tell my why the delay.

Just a quick stop by to say hi and hope no one here is affected by hurricane Francine. Prayers for those who are.

Hi all -

Weather forecast says finally temps below 100 next week - for the first time since May. The evenings and mornings have been a little cooler, allowing me to spend some time in my workshop. I am really looking forward to the cooler weather. I have plenty of small train projects to keep me sane.

Looking over the list of challenge entries I realized that I didn't see Dr Wayne's name. I am have been away from this site for awhile, and notice he is no longer posting. I certainly hope he is doing well and that I did not miss some bad news.

Hi everyone.

First I will update on Wayne. I talk to him every other week and he is doing fine. He is spending a lot of time in a hobby shop in St Cadherins.
He had an incident a year ago and got lost while traveling to a friends because of road detours and it scared him. He thinks he has the beginning stages of Alzheimer's and has been to a doctor. I see nothing in the way of memory loss that isn't normal for late 70's but his mother died from it in her 50's.
He had computer issues and finally gave up. He had been using Windows for years but his daughter gave him a Mac and I think the difference was more than he wanted to attack so last week he told me he had given it to his grand kids.  Frankly, he seems to have given up on everything but modeling and he is doing a lot of custom work for the hobby shop.  He is fine and in good spirits and hopes to visit me yet this year.

We had a great day today weatherwise and I finally found out my new great grandsons name.   Noah Edward. They had the middle name but took them 5 days to decide on a first name. Wink

My grand daughter that lives alone  in town had 3 St. Bernard's that crossed the bridge this year, they were all over 11 years old  and that is remarkable for the breed. Her last one died 2 months ago.  When she went to work last night her fellow workers had got together and got her a Burmese Poodle puppy. It was love at first site. Wonderful friends to do this for her and it is fully vetted. And he loves me too. Smile

I managed to renumber 11 hopper cars tonight. The decals from K4 decals were perfect.

I also got my motor home on level ground and put some atf on the bolts for the sway bar. I am replacing the bushings and if I let the bolts soak a day or so maybe I won't break one.

      Good night all

Happy Friday the 13th, gang.

60 going to the low 80s with more wildfire smoke.

Yesterday was moderately productive. I did manage to get the yard mowed. This morning I need to pack for the weekend. Going to my class reunion. I'll be back sometime Sunday. Charlie - sounds like your granddaughter has some pretty nice coworkers.

All stay extra safe on this Friday the 13th.

Good afternoon folks

It is 79 on its way to 81.

Been a couple of busy days at home and work. Work has been no one big thing going on but a bunch of little things that require close watching. Home has been trying to catch up on a few items including the laundry. As a result, I have not gotten the chance to work on the layout or to run trains.

With our cruise coming up next weekend a good part of te weekend will be spent organizing and packing. I will need to do laundry with the emphasis on things we need for vacation. We will also be watching the hurricane forecast. If one pops up near Bermuda we could be cruising to Nova Scotia instead. It is time to begin transitioning the gardens to fall. I have already taken down the window boxes and they will need to be cleaned. Since the squirrels have stolen the few tomatoes we got this season my wife is going to remove the plants from their pots. We will need to make a run to get some mums. Lastly my wife and daughter are itching to get started on the Halloween decorations so I will be bringing the bins up from the basement. I am glad to see them wanting to decorate because the last few years my wife has had little interest in holiday decorations due to her health issues back then.

I am hoping to run some trains. I want to build a couple of rolling stock kits. Also work on the station platform kits tat I need to do to replace the ones that hit the floor one too many times.

Charlie thanks for the update on Wayne. Glad to hear he is doing well.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Charlie: Thanks for the update on Doctorwayne.

Our little subdivision is celebrating its 30th anniversary tomorrow. It's a special place due to the family that developed it. There's a minimum age of 55 anda number of restrictions, but it does work as a community.

Good morning Blue
Well we had our first club meet of the new season. It was well attended. I saw gas at $2.99. It's been a real looong time since I've seen that. Our weather is a comfortable low 80s. Got some fresh air coming in till the A/C kicks on at 76 degrees.

Greetings, gang.

Weather forecast says 87 for a high today. Tomorrow slightly cooler at only 86. 87 again on Wed. and a big cool down on Thur. with a high of only 85.

Had a really good time over the weekend although the people there have gotten really old (except me of course). Only problem I had was the motel. There was nothing wrong with the room. I just couldn't sleep. 4 hours Friday night and 3 hours Saturday night. Finally gave up and drove home at 4 AM on Sunday morning. Took a 2.5 hour nap and found myself occasionally dozing during the day. Only slept for about 5 hours last night. Hopefully I can turn that around tonight.

One nice thing about the room was that it had a very romantic view - of the Harbor Freight sign next door. While in there I bought two 72 foot solar powered rope lights. They will replace the multiple rope lights that now outline the track on the Backyard and Southern. I'll try to get those installed this morning. After lunch I have a doctor appointment in Ames. I'll do some additional shopping while there.

All stay safe.

Good morning folks

It is 66 and we are heading up to 78.

It is a cray day on the dam project. We have working going on at the dam site and a site about 2 miles downriver at the locks where the canal rejoins the river.

Tonight my wife and I ar going to try to get our Covid booster shots.

The weekend was better than expected. Saturday, we ran some errands, going to the pharmacy, Target for a return and shopping, and the grocery store. Did some cleaning around the house. Sunday the wife and brought the window boxes in and cleaned them out along with a couple more pots. With tis dry and hot summer the plants did not do well even though they were watered daily. We started the Halloween decorations. I brought 3 bins up from the basement and we worked on them. My wife wants to get the majority of the decorating done before we go on our cruise at the end of the week.

I ran trains this weekend. I did not get much else done. My running sessions on both days were just over 2 hours each day. In those four hours I only had one derailment and one uncoupling incident. During my running session there was a small mishap which now gives me a backstory to how the bridge rail got broken.

I hope everybody has a good day.

. got see the doc and prescribed some more pills that help the hands, so now I'm trying to clear the model desk it got piled up to the point i couldn't see the top so i started by the yearly shaking of the paint bottles sad to say i lost a 15 cent one of testors and aa 10 cent one of pactra   . on the other medical news the cardiologist has me wearing a heart monitor for a month to check up on my afib and it's a pain glad to say the VA covers the cost.
other than that, stay safe Jim

Good morning all, just a bit about our weather and stuff. Jim is right, yesterday was the 112th consecutive day at 100 or higher. Today should put an end to that nonsense. We should be in the low 90's, big drop, end of record heat. Oh yeah, we also had a record of 59 days at 110 or higher. Whoopie doooo.

As for gas, Costco is at $3.19 while the station two blocks from me is $3.23. If I drive to Costco, it will take about a dollar in gas to get there and back and I'll save sixty cents in the process. Not a very good return on my recent $70.53 membership renewal investment. I wonder just how many $1.50 hot dogs I'll have to eat to make up for that loss....

Nothing else going on worth talking about. Time is zipping by, enjoy what's left of September, we are just minutes away from Halloween, or so our big box stores want us to think...
