I finally did a job that I've needed to do for over 11 years (since we bought the house). There's a hanging light just behind me where I use the computer (in part of the kitchen). It's been dim. I looked into it recently and found that, as well as decades worth of fluff, it has two curly fluorescent bulbs of apparently low wattage. I vacuumed it out and today bought and installed two 100W equivalent LED bulbs -- dimmer compatible. I can now see!
Tech note: LRD bulbs may come with warnings about not using in an enclosed fixture and not dimmer compatible. These ones cost over $15 for a pair.

The CPKC holiday train is on the move. We're planning to see it on Sunday.

Greetings, gang.

26 now and maybe 20 degrees warmer by this afternoon. 50 tomorrow and then only 31 on Monday. So sayeth the National Weather Service.

Actually got quite a bit done yesterday. Another herd of leaves rounded up and ready to be sent off to the great leaf herd in the sky. Or the yard waste disposal site. After lunch I decided to get to get the plastic put on the windows in my office. Took longer than I thought as I had to cut and fit some new boards. Then late afternoon found me headed to a basketball game for one of the great grandsons. Another game this morning at 10. Saturday laundry and college football are also on the agenda.

All stay safe.

Good Sunday morning to ya all. I hope your college teams all won yesterday. I was watching ASU vs BYU and Arizona State was ahead 28-7. I left for a while and came back to find BYU was trailing by three points and was getting ready for a Hail Mary with one second on the clock, but it took about a half hour before they could clear the crowd off the field for that final play. After all the hub-to-do, the ball was caught on the 2-yard line and got no further, so that was the game. Everyone stormed the field again. If I was there, I'd have just headed to the parking lot to get out of there before everyone else... But then again, there's no chance of finding me at any sporting event or anywhere else where crowds gather.

Today is a day of rest, I just have a few house chores to do, maybe watch some football, I'll just wing it for whatever feels right to do. Gas is up and I've been to Gas Buddy to report a 30 cent increase in two local stations that changed a few days ago, but I go through the process and nothing changes. Why do the keep asking me to participate if they won't listen to me? Their loss.

Getting ready to go to church, then stop at Brenda's Kitchen. Today is the fourth time Joanne has reopened having to take it back each time she sold it. Each time she comes back, there are new hours and new menus, so I really don't know what to expect, except she has rehired the same waitresses once again.

Take care and enjoy the day.... Icon_e_biggrin

Greetings, gang.

37 and mostly cloudy in the remote reaches of northern Iowa this morning. Going to the upper 40s to possibly 50 by this afternoon. Then the wind switches to the northwest and tomorrow's high is only supposed to be around 30.

Decent day yesterday. Watch a basketball game for one of the great-grandsons. Got the laundry caught up and hauled away some more leaves. Then watched my college team become bowl eligible for a bowl game for the first time in 8 years. Yay!

Gas was down to $2.79 yesterday.

All stay safe.

Good morning good people of Big Blue, a good way to start Thanksgiving week, make sure you don't have any last-minute shopping to do, and stay home Thursday and Friday. That's my rule anyway.

Temps will be in the mid to high 70's for the next two weeks, no more 80's for a while they say. Still, I had to turn on my vehicle's A/C the other day. I do have to go to Walmart for a few things, not related to the holidays, so I can get what I need at the small "Neighborhood Market" down the street. Usually easy in, easy out although they don't carry all the same groceries that the bigger Walmarts do, it's more than adequate. I was reading an article rating the stores for value and quality. Walmart came in #1 for pricing and the quality of their store brands. Costco was #2 and Aldi #3. They're building a new Aldi about three or four miles from me, but it's not open yet. There's also a WinCo Food nearby, but it's kind of a crazy warehouse thing where you bag your own groceries and they won't accept credit cards. It's been many years since I've been there.

So much for babbling on, enjoy the day and stay warm and safe...

Good morning folks

It is 36 going up to 52.

I had a fairly busy weekend. I got the last of the potted plants from the garage to their window seat in the attic. We ran the usual errands to the grocery store and PetSmart. We went to Kohl’s to drop off Amazon returns and a Kohl’s return. My wife went into the store and attempted to do some shopping. I say attempted because she could not find what she was looking for. She brought the wheelchair with her and would use it when she couldn’t stand or walk. I say she used it only about 50% of the time. This the first time in three years she has been able to do something like this.

I did not get as much modeling done as I hoped. I did run some trains and put away some rolling stock I was done using. I built a couple of Accurail kits and sealed a couple Accurail Chicago & East Illinois boxcars, one of which I had renumbered. I sprayed a couple of boxcars with gloss coat to get them ready for renumber decals.

Tonight, we need to move some delicates out of the way of the painters who are coming tomorrow. Not sure if I will get any modeling done.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Greetings, gang.

32 with a wind chill of 22 at the moment and that's about it for the high for today. Gonna be cold here for the rest of the week.

I was goofing off on the front porch yesterday with the aide of my trusty space heater when I remembered I needed to get my summer and winter toys switched around. Started up the lawn mower and let it run out of gas. While that was going I got the snow blower out of the shed and drained the oil. It was then that I realized I didn't have any oil to put back in. Off to Walmart but they didn't have any. Stopped at the auto parts store and found the oil I need. Also needed an air filter for the car so I asked at the counter. The lady looked it up and said they had one. Brought it out and their computer system was w-a-y wrong. We wound up going through boxes on the shelf and eventually found one. Most unusual.

Not much on the to do list for today. Grocery run and some packing. Headed for the Black Hills for turkey day. Then on Friday we'll be going out into the hills to look for a Christmas tree. Packing lots of warm clothes for the adventure.

Gas continues to drop. Down to $2.76 yesterday.

All stay safe.

Good Morning Everyone,

It is a warm 45 degrees here today. Most of the snow we got the other day is gone but they are calling for more Thanksgiving night into Friday so we shall see. We have some running around to do today which means grocery shopping and starting Christmas shopping for the kids and some family members. After we get all of our running in for the day, I am going to sit down and work some more on the one engine house. Other than that, there is really nothing new. Hope everyone has a wonderful day today.

Take Care My Friends

The pushbutton remote for the garage door opener stopped working over the weekend. (The one in the car still works). Replaced the battery but no go, and the old one was still over 9V. Last time I bought a replacement but it started working again before i could fight my way through the instructions. Today I couldn't find the replacement in the re-arranged basement.

Could be that you need to re-register the remote. Like, push the red button on the opener body and the remote button within 30 seconds. That's worth a try.

Greetings, gang.

Downright chilly this morning at 18 degrees. Maybe gonna hit 40 later on.

Exciting day waiting for the plumber to clean the basement drain yesterday. After that was a trip to the grocery store. Today is pie baking day. I'll be making 2 pumpkin pies, one to take to my daughter' place and one for here when I return. I'll be leaving in the morning and should be home by late Saturday.

All stay safe.

Hello Blue.
Sun this morning. 38/42 for today. Much colder after Thursday.
Did some grocery shopping yesterday, bought a turkey @ 49 cents a pound.  It will be a winter weekend treat as we will be with the kids for Thanksgiving.
Gas was slightly below 3 dollars yesterday. Nothing in my train world, locos need some lube jobs, just too lazy to do it.
