We had a bit of excitement last evening around 6PM.
A SEPTA train car caught fire about a mile from where I live.

Everyone was ok, no injuries....

Good afternoon folks

It is 41 but with the wind it feels a lot colder. Our high is supposed to be 42.

We are still dealing with teething pains with the new boiler and the old pipes getting along. We are experiencing hammering in the pipes which is affecting the heating of several radiators. I had service techs at the house twice this week and it longs like when I get home I will be calling again.

We had some excitement on the rails in my old neighborhood. A SEPTA commuter train caught fire and burned on the Northeast Corridor. The train was stopped and evacuated at Crum Lynne which is the station I used to use when I lived in that area. Luckily there were no injuries.

On the layout I was able to run some trains this week and do some clean up.

The weather will dictate what gets done. They are calling for the full mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain for Saturday afternoon and evening. I need to put the bins away that hold the Valentine Day decorations. There is a back log of laundry due to the fact that with the heater issues I have not been able to use the washer and dryer all the time. I need to run to the pharmacy, and grocery store.

I would like to continue adding scenery to the layout and ballast some more track. I need to finish assembling the replacement passenger platforms which will replace the damaged ones. I may try to build a few more kits. I need to do some organization and clean up the layout. I have a bunch of rolling stock that needs to be put away. Greenberg Train Show is in Wilmington, DE this weekend. I would like to go but confidence is low.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Greetings, gang.

Cloudy and 26 outside my window this morning. Supposed to go to maybe 28 with a good possibility of freezing rain and/or snow.

Had a decent workout at the gym yesterday and that was pretty much the extent of my activities for the day. Saturday of course means laundry around here. I had been considering going to a train show about 2 hours west of me but with the freezing rain I decided not to run the risk just for some train trinkets. Maybe tomorrow.

Gas currently just below $3.00

All stay safe.

You probably know all this, but these are old school ideas for new/old installations.

Did they install an expansion tank and hammer arrestor in the system?
The new heaters sometimes don't require it, but the old piping always seems to need one.
Also, at the highest radiator, farthest from the heater (top floor opposite side of the house) Take a quart of water out of the drain cock.
The hammering is always a trapped air bubble somewhere.
Then do every drain cock farthest to closest.
Hopefully this will work!  Smile

Happy National Pizza Day, gang.

How fortuitous that it falls on Super Bowl Sunday this year. I wonder how many pizzas will be consumed today.

Currently it's 5 degrees outside my window this morning after a low of 3. High maybe in the upper 20s later on.

Laundry is done and a little (actually very little) clean up in the shop has occurred. I had considered going to a train show a couple hours west of me today but I slept late this morning. In addition the fact that I would have to put gas in the car before leaving dissuaded me. Who wants to stand outside in this kind of weather?

All stay safe.

Greetings, gang.

Another chilly morning here. 8 at the moment and maybe the mid 20s for a high. As of yesterday the NWS was predicting a trace to an inch of snow. Now that's up to 2-4 inches of fluffy white, Then another 1-3 inches on Wednesday. Looks like the NWS is trying to make up for short changing us all winter. So far we've had less then 6 inches of snow all season. Now we're about to double that in two days. Normal snowfall around here is around 40 inches per year.

Yesterday was totally nonproductive. Watched movies and read. This morning I need to head to a few different stores to stock up for the week. Need to hit 4 different grocery stores to get all the stuff I want. The trick will be to get that done and still have motivation to go to the gym.

All stay safe.

Good morning folks

It is 33 currently. They say our high will be 37. Tomorrow and Wednesday are supposed to be nasty with snow.

Still battling with the heater. We are still getting the hammering and have two radiators that are not heating. Service guy is scheduled for later this afternoon.

Mikey thanks for the information. Unfortunately, we have a single pipe steam system. The problem we are having is too much water backing up into the steam pipe. This probably means that there is a blockage in the return pipes.

The weekend was laid back. I ran a few errands on Saturday to the grocery store, pharmacy, and Kohl’s for Amazon returns. I did some laundry, but not as much as I needed. I did not watch the Super Bowl despite the hometown team being in it. I occasionally checked in and we did watch the last eight minutes of the game. I was surprised that the celebrations did not do much damage in Philadelphia this time around.

I ran trains for a time on Saturday. On Sunday I spent time tuning up a bunch of rolling stock.

I am hoping that tonight we will have our heater issues resolved. I need to continue with the laundry. I also want to finish tuning up my Intermountain tank cars.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Hello Blue
We have sun at 15 degrees. Nothing over 30 in the 10-day forecast.
I watched the football game alone last night as no one want to venture out. So with nobody to chat with, I played slots and watched.
No train news for you this day. Gas was still 3.09 on Friday.

Greetings, gang.

Tthe ground is actually white this morning and looks to stay that way for a while. Got about 2 inches of snow overnight with another 2-4 predicted for tonight and no warming trend in sight.

Shopping trip yesterday to 4 different stores to get everything on my list. Kind of a nuisance but at least I have the time to do it. Running the snow blower and maybe a trip to the gym this morning and a concert for a couple of the great-grandkids this evening.

Gas was down to $2.92 yesterday when I was out.

All stay safe.

Just started snowing around 4 PM.
A few spots are white. Expecting around 3" by morning.
It'll be around until Thursday when we're getting rain and 53 deg weather.

Greetings, gang.

More snow and cold on tap. So far about an inch overnight with another 2-4 predicted for today. Not going to disappear for a while as temps for next week look to be in the single digits above and double digits below zero. On the other hand, we're almost half way through February so it should start to warm up in the next couple of weeks (I hope!).

After cleaning the sidewalks yesterday I headed to the gym. Jumped in the pool, swam one length and got out. The heater was on the fritz and the water was downright cool! Did some other stuff and came home. Last night was a band concert for two of the great-grandsons. Gonna skip the gym today but I'll need to run the snow blower this afternoon when the snow stops.

All stay safe.

We were supposed to get 3 - 6 inches of snow..... we got 2, so I'm happy with that.
Nothing interesting today, besides shoveling.
