my son gave  a older atlas gp35 that sounds like it has a cracked drive axle. my question us how you remove the axle cover?

Some of those old Atlas locos had a long brass screw on one end and you had to remove it and then the cover could slide off. I think the screw went into a slot to keep the truck from turning too far. I am stretching my memory on this one

If I'm not mistake there are clips on the sides of the cover. If so, you will need to get a small screwdriver or a not so sharp exacto blade and pry each side up but be careful as you move to the second clip the first one can snap back into place. I usually put the small screwdriver between the first clip to make sure it doesn't pop back in place. Once you get one side up, the other side will pop right off.

finally got it apart there were clips on the end the entire cover comes off sides and all. but the bummer is the thing is so old that the clip broke off trying to repair it.
as a side note it's an atlas made by concor dates it dint it.
