If you double that for 2" thickness, you get $30.56 (per 2" layer) X 8 = $244.48 plus a bit more for Uncle Sam.
It saves you a little bit.

I saved a lot of money by not buying from Home Depot or Lowes. The local lumber companies around here seem to be a little over 10% cheaper on many of the same items, but not all of them, So shop before you buy. If you are using the foam just for sound deadening I would think all you would need would be 1/2 inch. I can't say too much because I've never used foam for roadbed.

Russ, thanks for the tip on the editing.
TN, all I have ever found over here at HD is the 3/4" pink foam. I went ahead and bit the bullet and bought the 2" foam today. Even though it was expensive, I have what I need now, so no more stress or worry over that... nothing but building the layout now! Sometimes it pays to just cough up whatever they are asking and then forget about it. I've spent several hours online trying to track down foam dealers in Houston with no positive results. We just don't use that much insulation foam compared to other places.
CharlieB, I am mainly using the 2" foam because it is easy to "dig" ditches and drainages and bayous and everything... and that is what we have down here in Houston which is what I am modeling. Everything seems very flat, but there are plenty of features that go below the flat surface. It's easy to carve a deep ditch in the 2" foam. I still use cork roadbed on top of the foam thogh. My method is definitely not the cheapest, but it works.

Good catch Kevin. It is mostly walthers, but a few pieces of DPM. Obviously the building is a long way from being finished!

That's only because I did the exact same thing a few months ago!

Spiders...The bane of Texans...Have you taken any measures to keep the critters out..?? I regularly spray Raid House & Garden (green can) around all windows and door entries. It does a pretty good job of keeping them at bay....

Gus: The problem was that the old layout is in a 2.5 car garage that is still used as a garage. There was just no way to keep the critters out. They came through all the openings around the garage doors. Plus, in the spring and summer, with the garage doors open, the dirt dobbers and wasps just seemed to stream in by the hundreds looking for places to "dob some dirt." After spending hours every week sweeping the cobwebs, scraping the dobber nests, chasing the wasps with a tennis racket, vacuuming the dust, scrubbing corroded track, and sweating because of no climate control, I abandoned the layout.

Gus, one night awhile ago I was in the house and heard something bumping around in the garage. I step into the garage, and there is a raccoon up on the layout shelf nosing around! We had left the garage door open, and he wandered right in and climbed up onto the layout. I got a broom and tried to gently encourage him off the layout so none of the structures would be destroyed. Instead of going down, he climbs up the garage door track and gets on top of the garage door next to the ceiling. At that point, I abandoned my efforts, turned off the light and went back in the house, leaving the raccoon to find his own way out.

I just hardly can't wait to get home and start work on the next shelf to be moved from the garage to the new building. Maybe i can get out of here a bit early.

Thanks Marty. Haven't thought about a ceremony, but the golden door knocker sounds good. Trouble is, how does one know whenthis project is actually finished??

When the surveyors have put away their pencils, and the grading crews have finished installing the foam, and the steel gangs finally put that last piece of mainline flex track in place, it's time for a golden spike ceremony. After that, load up all the attending dignitaries into your road's business car for a ceremonial trip around the room. There should be cocktails in the lounge car for the investors, too.
