WOOHOO! Good weather = time to build

Ceiling is painted and waiting for the final touch-ups on the walls to dry. Next is installing light fixtures, painting the walls, and cleaning the floors. Then we'll install the receptacles and light switches. After that.... layout!

From German point of view it is simply unbelievable what you can do in your backyard. That is a powerful demonstration what a Texan means when he talks about freedom. Lucky man

ps. Yes, I see, a similar building is under construction in Ohio.

And here is a bit of progress. Second coat on the walls after spending 3 days correcting all the uh-ohs that my hired finisher left me.

No need to worry about the electrical stuff. Even though I'm wearing a LU 220 shirt, I am actually out of 716 in Houston. Glad to know there is a fellow IBEW member here.

Great progress with the building Gary

Thank you. I am sooooo close to being finished with the walls, but I am nitpicking it to death, and trying to make it perfect for the backdrop. Probably too perfect. Last night, I found a few tiny flaws, so I mudded them, then have to let that dry all day, then tonight I found some more "flaws" so I worked on them. One of these days it will be "good enough" and on to the layout.

Kevin, I am seriously ready to be finished with the building. I'm hoping that the sheetrock finish corrections I made tonight will be the final ones. A bit of sanding on those tomorrow and another coat of paint on the walls, then I'll put up the lights and the switches and plugs and we'll call it done.

Thanks for the encouragement, Russ. I'm looking forward to moving the existing layout from the garage into the buildng. Then things will really take off from there.

Hey Gary, forgive me if you answered this one already, but are you going with carpet, hardwood or tile in the new train room? If carpet, what kind?

Tom, for now the floor will be left concrete. Perhaps in a few years when the layout is up and running, I'll do something, but exactly what surface I'll use is uncertain at this point.

May I suggest natural rubber (caoutchouc). I have it in my home office. It is extreme durable and resistant to all kind of chemicals like paint thinner, solvent etc. I got that idea last year when we refurbished the entire flat and parquet was much to sensitive under a layout under construction.
Natural rubber in black color with pimple/burling of about 1" diameter is used on many airports. In a more friendly color with a smooth surface lots of hospitals use it. I got that version and I am very satisfied.
