upnick Wrote:Hi Josh the tunnl is high enough for double stacks to get through ...i tested it Icon_lol on top of the level of the tunnel is now as high as the back boards but i am going to make it twice as high for more impact. Goldth

Thats good to hear, double stacks are my favorite and a must for me on layouts lol, so i have to build around them lol Misngth

upnick Wrote:Get the plan sent off to MR .lol

Im really thinking about it Misngth but i dont know if i should try and wait for another track planning contest from them or just propose it to them and see what they think lol

Quite an impressive layout upnick, and you are building it at a fast pace.
Nice engines too.
Please keep us informed of further progress.

upnick Wrote:Hi All,

Having a couple of days back as holidays i spent it lining the backboard on board one with more foam to create the background basis to the rockface, still looking a bland uniform white the effects of the carving out is coming on well.

The waterfall area i am not sure where to have the waterfall itself either in the corner at an angle or inline with board one ........ in the corner will break the eye i'm tempted to go with this idea more.

Construction of the tunnel sides is finished sprayed over with a thin coat of grey to see the effect of the rockface ....... though the tunnel overall is to square at the moment needing some shaping still ...... when i'm happy with it a good cleaning ofv the track inside the tunnel and the top will go on ......... an end board with a piano hinged access panel on the outer side of it in case of derailments is next to be done .. along with filling in between the sections of foam where needed with black miliput.

It looks great!

Hi All,

Here is a track plan of things so far mapped out .. the intermodal tracks will be planned once the scenics are finished.
The plan isnt symetrical or perfect but hope it gives you an idea of my aims, the track leading to to the storage area is only hidden under the mainlines.

I like it. It has a very organic look to it with its flowing curving track work. One question though, what do you figure the radius is on that inside corner of the bench work?

Ya know what...forget that last part...I forgot I was posting in the N-scalers forum...you gents can get away with tighter radii. sorry bout that. Big Grin

Many thanks for the comments ..... to be honest i'm not sure of the radius of the inside corner i laid my flexitrack down left it loose and ran the Big Boy over it till it ran smooth all the curves are set to allow the Big boys to go over easily and gently, it has made the intermodal a bit narrower than i wanted but with the turntable allowing access to another part of the intermodal yard i can yet run the yard further along the length of board one if i decide to.
The track is Peco code 55 flexi and turnouts.

Hi All,

Quick update on the waterfall area its all but ready for a color coat and water /talus weeds/grasses to be added before the bridge is finally put in position and the tracks over it set, the main mine track is now in place over the rock outcrop forming the edge of the pool, another track will lead from the mine next to the mine main track back and onto board one to hold loaded cars ready to be hauled from the mine.

Looking Good Nick

I forgot to mention, make you you get the Woodland Scenics Water Effects as well as the Realistic Water. The Effects one should be used for the water fall and the vertical/sloped part, while the Realistic Water used for the flat areas Thumbsup

And dont forget to seal off any and every place that stuff could run into and seep lol

Looking good!

For water I'm hearing good things about this stuff called "Magic Water" from a couple of LHS's and other locals who have used it.

Hi All,

The waterfall structure is done now and ready for paint it will show up any areas where filler or scenic materials need to be added to blend the scene.

The water escapes from the pool via an underground cave seen in picture two ....... the white glued line around the base of the rocks is to seal it ready for the water pour after Trucklover tells me Woodland scenic water spreads everywhere if not sealed properly .... when i took the picture it was still wet but will of course dry clear.

Hi all,

Got the colourcoat on this afternoon hope it dries out a bit lighter than it is in the picture but it has brought out the detailing well, now its either washes or careful drybrushing to pick up the features.

The pigment was still wet when the picture was taken .......... Big Grin
