Wow, pretty impressive body of work when you look at all the entries together....I had a blast, these contests, at least for me, have been the best motivator to finish I have seen! This is the most fun contest I have ever participated in......wait, uhhh, it's the ONLY contest I have ever participated in Can't wait for the next contest, which should be entitiled...

The OK, Now That You Actually Completed A Project, Stay Off Your Duff and Complete Another One Fall 2010 Structure Challenge..

What an awesome sight it would be to see a layout designed by all these world-class modelers of THE Gauge....

I personally liked Steamtrains engine house the best. I voted for everyone that completed their project, the only criteria I could come up with to separate the otherwise B-B-B BAD TO THE B-B-B-B-B-B BONE entries!

Don, nothing personal, but who in their right mind would expect a person to choose which project is best? I have just gone over each one, and all are fantastic beyond belief. And you expect me to select ONE that is best? I would just declare them all winners. WHEEEE. All have turned out a project that would take me years. All I can say is "Congratulations to one and all"

Remember, you can vote for one, you can vote for all or you can vote for any number in between. Very often I can't make up my mind either and wind up voting for everyone that entered. I know that doesn't make sense from a voting tabulation standpoint, but it does give those deserving it a way of my saying that they did a great job and we applaud them all...

Things are looking good. Lots of votes, but it's still not too late in case you haven't voted. There's still just a bit over a week before the polls close, so don't procrastinate and lose out. Make your vote count. Can't make up your mind? Well, you can vote for as many entries as you like, so don't hesitate, just do it.

I have to say I voted for several of the 11 entries and found them all really interesting to follow. While I didn't get off my duff and complete either of the projects I had been thinking about for this contest, I did get off my duff and complete a couple other layout projects (like laying track and installing a fascia). So thank you for not only this contest but the many encouraging words and inspiring projects all around Big Blue.

There was one entry for whom I did NOT vote, and it was Wayne's shanty - all because of those garish yellow handrails. Fantastic craftsmanship and ingenuity of design, but YELLOW?? You had me cheering all the way through the thread until that point. Oh well.

I second the motion (or is that a third) for the 'finish something on your workbench' Fall 2010 contest. I think there should be an entry requirement that a person demonstrate or at least swear to the fact that the project has indeed been sitting on the workbench (or packed away near-by) and was started long before this Autumn, like years ago. Bonus 'procrastinator points' for longevity?

Right on ... I second Galen! As all my stuff has been packed away for nearly twenty years, I have more than a few candidates to choose from! Time allotted to the Challenge will help me with the choice. 8-)

No problem, Galen - I didn't vote for me either (never do).

The two shanties with the yellow railings are slated for Erie Northshore crossings and are both located between tracks. Parent road EG&E (it's their paint scheme used on the shanties) specified the handrails to prevent the flagmen from exiting the shanty directly onto the tracks. Northshore employees found the yellow paint "somewhere" and added it as their own stamp of individuality.

Dr. W....What type of loco is #602?... I'm a sucker for high-nose oldie diesels....

Gus, the 602 is a LifeLike (Proto-No-Thousand) RS-11. I removed the poor-running motor, and added some details. It's since gone to another Member of Big Blue, along with a similar (but much better running) Atlas version of the same loco.

I agree: I like the look of most high nose diesels better than their chop-nosed brethren.

Well, Gus, In the case of your enginehouse, it is my estimation that even if you did vote for yourself, it would be perfectly understandable why you did, and perhaps even expected. That is one sweet looking structure.

Now go back and vote for your own project, dang it! You deserve it!

Considering that on many of these projects, only a few of us ever get 100% completed... How about for the next project we vote based on the progress presented, not the finished work? That way, someone can note feel like they can't take on a huge endeavor. I mean, bil could have entered a small kitbashed office, but instead he chose to tackle the HUGE GERN facility. I bet he did more work on what he did accomplish than if he had completed a much smaller structure. Yes, there is a lot to be said about finishing a project, but I hate to see people underwhelm their abilities just so they can get something "done". So, for the next challenge, I propose:

"Find the oldest unfinished project on your workbench, and make substantial progress."

That's basically what we've been doing the past few challenges. If you note, not everyone on the list finished their project, but it's up to the voters to say whether or not it rates a vote or not. I agree, not everyone has the time they thought they had when committing to doing something, and they need to get credit for the excellent work they did put into it, and I think the best was to do that is just like we've done, list everyone that made an effort to get as far as they could dependent on the scope of the project and the time available.

And yeah, that's a good subject for a challenge, and one to get some of those old projects moved from the "to-do" list, to the "completed" list. I'm open to other suggestions for the next challenge, PM me with your ideas, or I can open another thread. We prefer to do things that our members like and suggest, so if we have a list of these suggestions, we'll go to that list first before trying to think of one ourselves. We don't always hit a home run with some of ours either.
