I don't recall seeing this in any of the "discourses" on decal application. It hasn't been an issue for me, because the decal is usually floating free by the time I'm ready to apply it. Excellent "mini tutorial" on decal usage !!

Where are decal sheets to be had..?? The # boards are partitioned, about 3/32" square per digit...I can forsee a very trying day when I go about placing those numbers....
Question...Was there any rhyme or reason for designating the locos' numbers..?? I don't believe thay were sequentially designated, as there were numbers in the high 4 digits...

Some roads used separate number boards merely for displaying the loco number, while others used them only to display the train number (from the timetable) or to denote that the train was an "extra" (unscheduled train). In this latter case, the number displayed was usually that of the lead loco, preceded by an "X". Most of my trains run as Extras, so all locos have numberboards ('cause I like the looks of 'em) with an "X" followed by the loco's number or the loco's number preceded by another numeral which indicates the "owning" railroad.

Suitable numbers can usually found within lettering sets for locos (steam or diesel) or in alphabet sets (various font sizes and styles) or as part of freight car lettering sets - look for number sequences or "jumbles" intended as car end numbers. For very small numerals, cut what you need from dimensional data.

In a past life I owned one of those... It was such a lousy runner, I sold it to a buddy of mine when I tore the layout down to change houses. It's the only train-related item I ever got rid of.
