That thing is HUGE. Great work on fabricating the support.
I took the nearly 1/2 circle roundhouse out to the paint shop "garage" and hit it with some primer today.

I'll give it at least a full day to dry before I put any color on it. After that I'll get the roof started.
FAN-tastic!!!! Thumbsup Thumbsup Thumbsup Thumbsup Thumbsup
What an exciting build! Looking forward to more!

WoW...!! "Huge" doesn't describe it....That thing is HUMONGOUS..!!! Great job..!! Thumbsup
Thanks everyone. I started on the windows on roof section of the round house. Here is a before and after shot of the first step.[attachment=4715] I'm removing the dividers in the windows so that I can replace them with a hinged ones. The larger ones go in the back and the other ones go in the front.

6 of the stalls are from used kits that were already assembled so I'm removing them from the roof sections as I move along.[attachment=4714]The roof sections from these kits are badly damaged, they will all be replaced with card stock. If you need some Heljan roof sections just let me know, I have some left overs from the new kits that I'm not using.

I also painted the interior with some rattle can gray primer. I thought that It might give the impression of a finished interior.

I broke out the airbrush and painted the concrete portions of the roundhouse.

It was done with a base coat of Polly scale concrete and washes of aged concrete and D&H gray. The brick work and doors will be next.
nice save EP looks great .

EP...That's looking AWESOME..!! Are you going to mask all that pretty concrete to paint the brick..or are you going to hand paint it..??
At this time steamtrains, my plan is to spray the doors and let them dry. Mask off the doors and concrete and spray the brick.I just want to give ample time in between coats to insure that I don't pull off the previous layer of paint Eek .
That was my concern....masking tape is a real hazard.... Eek How long will you let it set before masking it..??

Steve, if the surface was clean when you painted the concrete colour, you shouldn't have any problem with the tape lifting the paint. PollyScale paint is very tough and Testors recommends only 24 hours for a full cure.
To lessen the chance of tape lifting previously applied paint, it helps to first apply the tape to a sheet of clean glass. This is also a good opportunity to use a fresh blade to trim the edges of the tape to ensure a clean separation line between colours, as the factory edges can be damaged during storage and handling, resulting in less-than-perfect edges. In addition to giving a cleaner edge, this also removes the portion of the tape which has been exposed to air, which can dry-out the adhesive somewhat, resulting in a weak bond where you least want it.
Another way to lessen the chance of lifted paint is to use tape only where the actual colour separation is required. For areas needing only to be covered to prevent overspray, use paper.
Finally, remove the tape as soon as the newly applied paint is dry to the touch, peeling the tape back over itself at as sharp an angle as possible. This decreases the stress on both the newly applied paint and on the previously applied coats. You should be able to use regular masking tape without fear of lifting the paint - I find that the green and blue varieties do not stick well, especially when used over irregular surfaces and particularly when the paint being used is solvent-based, such as Floquil or Scalecoat.

I 'll let it set up a few days there steamtrains. I painted the concrete yesterday and the doors today. The primer was put on 5 days ago, so the brick will get started in a few days.
I masked off the brick sections around the doors more to keep the over spray down to a minimum that aria.

They will get a coat of Poly scale Empire Green. These are the same colors that I used on the coaling dock.

[attachment=4723]
I also primed the upper windows. They will get the same green.

Thanks for the tips Doc.... Thumbsup
The doors are painted and the tape removed.[attachment=4726] I also installed the upper windows.

[attachment=4725]while the glue sets I primed all the other windows and doors. It will be Empire green all around after a trip to the LHS for more paint.
Wow. That Roundhouse is sure going to make a statement when planted EP.
It is a great reconstruction job, and it just shows what a difference a paint job makes to any structure, all of a sudden it goes from "a collection of stuck together bits of plastic/wood/paper" etc to looking like it is an actual building.
Great work.
And thanks for the tips on masking tape and paintwork Doc. very handy info, I had no idea. Thumbsup
